🎃 Tuesday Tip: Trick-or-treaters Saturday, darker drives home starting Sunday. Can you see? 🎃

Halloween falls on Saturday the 31st, and the clocks fall back on Sunday, November 1. That means more little ones out after dark this weekend and an earlier sunset on the drive home all winter long. It's the perfect week for a quick visibility check:

💡 Headlights: Are your lenses cloudy or yellowed? Any bulbs out? Do a quick walk-around with your lights on (and ask someone to check your brake lights while you're at it).
🌧️ Wiper blades: If they streak, smear, or chatter, it's time for a new pair before the sleet and snow arrive.
💧 Washer fluid: Top it off with a winter blend so it won't freeze when you need it most.

And on Saturday night, please slow down in the neighborhoods. Costumes are hard to spot in the dark, and excited kids don't always look both ways. 👻

Monday Maintenance: When’s the last time you checked your spare tire? 🔧

Most of us keep an eye on the four tires we drive on every day, checking the tread and pressure. But the spare is just as important, and it’s easy to forget it’s even there until the day you need it. 🛞

Spares lose air just sitting in the trunk, so a flat on the road can turn into two flat tires. Here’s a quick check:

✅ Check the pressure. Compact spares (the “donuts”) often need a higher PSI than your regular tires, usually around 60 PSI. Look on the tire’s sidewall or in your owner’s manual.
✅ Look it over. Cracks, dry rot, or bulges mean it’s time for a replacement, even if it’s never been used.
✅ Find your tools. Make sure the jack and lug wrench are actually there. They have a way of disappearing after the last cleanout!
✅ Make sure you have one. Many newer cars don’t come with a spare at all, just a tire inflator kit. Find out now, not on the side of Route 1. 😉

Tuesday Tip: Windows Up, Heat On. Make Sure That's All You're Breathing. 💨🚗

Cold weather means windows stay shut and the heat stays cranked. That's exactly when a small exhaust leak can turn into a big safety problem, because carbon monoxide has no color and no smell.

Watch for these warning signs:
⚠️ Your car suddenly sounds louder or has a deeper rumble than usual
⚠️ You smell exhaust inside the cabin
⚠️ Headaches, dizziness, or drowsiness while driving that go away once you're out of the car

A few safety reminders as the temps drop:
🚫 Never warm up your car in a closed garage, even for a few minutes.
❄️ After a snowstorm, clear the snow away from your tailpipe before starting the car.
🪟 If you feel any of those symptoms while driving, crack the windows, pull over safely, and get some fresh air.

If something sounds or smells off, bring it by. We'll take a look and give you a straight answer about what needs fixing now and what can wait. That's how we've done it since 1938.
