The part nobody thinks about until something goes wrong. 🛞
Tires touch the ground, carry the whole cart and take the full punishment of a Florida summer. After 39 years of putting carts on the lift here in Dundee, we can usually tell how someone uses their cart just by looking at the four corners.
There are three families, and choosing the wrong family is the most common mistake we see. Turf tires, shallow and smooth, the right answer if the cart lives on a course or on manicured community paths. All terrain, deeper and blockier for sand, gravel and damp grass, the usual choice on a lifted cart. Street or low profile, a wider flatter footprint built for asphalt, normally the most comfortable and the most planted in a turn if the cart is your run to the mailbox and to the store.
Most of our customers are not driving to a first tee, so street or all terrain beats turf for the majority of the carts leaving our lot.
The sidewall uses two different systems, which is why the numbers look inconsistent from one cart to the next. Inch sizing, such as 18x8.50-8, is roughly 18 inches tall and 8.5 wide on an 8 inch wheel. Metric, such as 205/50-10, is 205 millimeters of tread width on a 10 inch wheel. The last number is the one that has to match your wheel.
And here is the one that catches Florida owners out. Fine cracking in the sidewall is dry rot. The tire can look almost new across the tread and still be finished.
