Courtsara Truck Maintenance Innovations

Courtsara Truck Maintenance Innovations Maintenance Innovations We manufacture and sell truck spindles to fit many of OEM manufacturer products on their front driven steer axles.

These include Meritor, Marmon-Herrington, and Fabco to date. We are not affiliated with the aforementioned companies. With our spindles, you will be able to pack your front hub assemblies and grease your axle bushings in 10 minutes instead of the 16 man hours it usually takes. Normally all businesses, that have the 4x4, 4x6, and 6x6 trucks, accept the cost of maintaining these axles as an expendi

ture or the cost of doing business. With these spindles you can turn that expenditure into profit!! At present we have manufactured spindles to fit the Meritor 120 axles. We can customize any manufacturers spindle to fit your application. These spindles have been tested in the real world and through mechanical engineers to where they meet all standards set by the manufacturers and the DOT.

MAKESHIFT VACUUM that you can make from simple materials. The first thing you will need is an old style vacuum that you hook up to an air supply. You can pick them up for under 30 bucks just about anywhere. They are used for AC vacuums. Now you need a Ball canning jar. Drill 2 holes in the lid that will fit two 1/8" pipe fittings with ni***es for vacuum hose. I use a couple feet of 1/4" hose and about 4' of 1/4" plastic line plugged into the hose. The other line is a couple feet of 1/4" line going to the vacuum. Screw the 1/8" fittings into the holes in the cap till they bottom out. Put some silicone sealer around the threads. Now screw two 1/8" barrel connectors on to that to tighten the assembly to the cover and seal the connection. You can use this to suck out brake fluid if you are bleeding brakes by yourself, or your master cylinder if wanting to change fluid, or power steering fluid out of a pump, or ATF out of your transmission before you do a service (no more mess), or antifreeze if you dont want to bother with draining it. The ball jar will hold a quart. I have used this apparatus for bleeding brakes on Harleys. You need to have an air compressor to do this but it works great. I attached a diagram. If you want pictures of actual unit let me know.

INOX MX4 LUBRICANT AND ELECTRIC SWITCHES. You know how every now and then your window, door lock, or mirror switches quit working. Well 95% of the time its because of corrosion especially with mirror switches that dont get used much. These things cost you anywhere from $50 to $200 to replace. I got turned on to MX4 by a friend that said it was better than Blaster for freeing up bolts. That's quite a statement in itself. He was right!! But it goes a step further with being able to be used on electrical stuff too. Its my go to lubricant. Anyway, these switches, a lot of times, can be fixed by spraying some of this in it and actuating it several times. Sometimes you have to take them apart to do this or even drill a small hole in a safe place on the housing to spray it in the actual switch. If your mechanically inclined you can usually take them apart, easily, but be careful that none of the pieces fall out and you dont know how to put them back in. Either way, these switches can be brought back to life in this manner 99% of the time. If you screw it up you were going to buy a new one anyway. Save you a trip to the auto parts store and money for the part. I have also done electric seat switches too. None of the switches I have done over the last 5 years of doing it have failed!! No I dont have stock in INOX. OB1 out!

SILICONE RUBBER VS NEVERSEEZ. People have been using Neverseez to make it so you can take things apart for years. There are many problems with it washing out or getting thrown out by centrifugal force over a period of time. How many of you have put U-Joints together with neverseez only to have to press them out, with great force, when you have to change them the next time? How many of you have had a hard time getting a wheel hub or rotor off your vehicle? The aforementioned is the reason for it. Corrosion is your enemy. If corrosion gets in you will have trouble getting it apart. I have used silicone in place of Neverseez for years. Had many people I worked with stonewall when I first started doing it but once they had to take apart something I had previously done they appreciated how easy it came apart. On big trucks, U-Joints come apart with a 2 lb. hammer instead of a fancy press. I have even used a 16 oz. in a pinch and they came apart like nothing. You will still have to press them out of your car but its way easier and you use way less force. I have taken out sealed hubs with just a couple hammer hits. The same with rotors. There are many things you can do this to. Just look at where you normally put Neverseez and use silicone instead. There are places for Neverseeze but more times than not silicon rubber works better because it seals out moisture. OB1 out!

PACKING SEALED HUB BEARING New tip for the day. On your sealed hubs that are "un-greaseable". The bearings in those hubs have seals on one side of them. The inside part of the bearing has no seal and is open in the hub. Most of those hubs have ABS sensors that are removeable. Take off your tire, caliper, and rotor. Remove the ABS sensor. Napa sells a rubber tip for air blowers PN # 90-583. Remove your grease zirk off your grease gun. Install a 1/8" pipe coupler and then install the rubber tip in the barrel connector. Snug the assembly on your grease gun. This works best on a hose type grease gun instead of the metal tube and with a pistol grip pump. The grease you use should be a good quality synthetic grease. Stay away from Lucas. That is garbage. Now put the rubber tip into the ABS hole, hold in place, and start pumping grease. On any 4wd half ton p/u, pump in 26 pumps of grease. 1/2 ton 2wd = 19 pumps. 3/4 or 1 ton 4wd is 35 pumps. When you get done, you will have packed your inner and outer hub bearings with grease. Now reinstall the ABS sensor and you are good for 50,000 miles. When you reservice them the next time put in about 12 pumps of grease. Doesnt matter the hub size. I used pickup trucks for my example but almost every hub has removeable ABS sensors. You will have to use some common sense as to how much grease to put in because the hubs vary from size to size. Also, your ABS sensor works on a magnetic holograph that uses magnetic impulses from the reluctor ring as it turns. The grease will not affect this. Being able to service these hub bearings will save you a lot in maintenance costs. There are pictures on Courtsara.com in the tip section. OB1 out!

GASKET REMOVAL Here is another tip that goes hand in hand with the transmission service. The gasket that goes around the transmission pan is either going to be rubber, cork, or paper. If its the paper one, those are a bitch to get off. The cork are a little easier and this technique will work on it too. Most people use a wire wheel or 3m disc which exposes them to a lot of dust that in some cases has fiber in them that is not good for you to breathe. Take a propane torch and heat the gasket a section at a time. Then take your scraper and scrape off the gasket where you heated. Use as much heat as necessary to get the gasket to come off. If it isnt hot enough it wont come off easily. If the heat is right, you will be amazed at how easy they come off. These same kinds of gaskets are used on various pieces of equipment and this technique works well on them too. Anybody that has ever had to take these gaskets off knows how much they suck. OB1 out!!

BETTER THAN NEVERSEIZE Tip for all my Northern followers. Salt is a corrosive environment that is prevalent up there. Rust makes it hard to get out bolts or separate parts for replacement. If you do a service on your transmission, chase the threads for the pan bolts before assembly. Next take Napa Right Stuff silicone sealer and coat the threads with it. This works better than Neverseize because it wont wash out and seals the threads from the environment. You will be thankful you did it the next time you service your transmission. Your transmission needs to be serviced every 20,000 miles if you are towing and every 30,000 if you are not. Keeping with the service interval will save you money in the long run. OB1 out!!

BIG TIRE CALIBRATION Here is my tip for the day for all you guys and gals that like pickup trucks with big tires. If you put on big tires and you dont calibrate your transmission to shift properly with those tires, you will be replacing your transmission regularly. If you buy a programmer you can change your settings in your computer. OB1 out!!

BATTERY CABLE CLEANING New tip for the day. How many people clean their own battery cables? I have heard and tried baking soda and Coca Cola. They both will work but not well. First remove your battery cables. If there isnt much room in that area take the battery out of your way. Take a large cup, at least 12oz or more. Fill with water and place in microwave till water boils, usually 3 to 4 minutes, but keep an eye on it so you dont over boil. Now put the corroded cable ends into the water one at a time swishing it in the hot water. When you can pull it out and there is no corrosion it is done. Your metal will be shiny and all the green/white will be gone. Pour the rest of the hot water over both the battery posts and rinse them off. Now put dielectric grease on your posts and cable ends and reassemble. You will now have great electrical contact that will last. Computers now days are real finicky about voltages. Little quirks you ride around living with often times can be attributed to dirty corroded battery cables. Ford people especially need to pay attention to them. OB1 out!
