THIS 2024 HONDA CR-V WAS DROPPED OFF FOR FOUR NEW 18” COOPER PRO CONTROL TIRES.
I knew right away while trying to remove the wheels from the vehicle that there were going to be some issues with the wheel’s center bores.
NOW FOLKS, I WOULD CONSIDER THIS A “LIKE NEW” VEHICLE, AS IT’S ONLY TWO YEARS OLD.
The wheels were so seized to the hubs that they had to be pounded off.
There’s definitely a design flaw here, as the center bores of the wheels are not vented, not allowing moisture to escape, thus trapping the moisture between the center cap and axle hubs, causing extreme corrosion and breakdown of the actual lip of the center bores.
THIS CONDITION IS SOMETHING YOU’D SEE ON A TWENTY YEAR OLD BMW WHEEL, AND TO THINK THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY TWO YEARS OLD.
I recommended that the customer show Honda what’s happening to his wheels, just for future reference.
At this rate of deterioration, in another five years, the wheels will no longer be hub centric, unless they’re carefully monitored and treated with anti seize products.
I made sure the hubs were cleaned, and a coat of anti seize was applied.
BY THE WAY, THE WHEEL’S FLANGES WERE FLAWLESS, LIKE RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX NEW, NOT EVEN A SPECK OF CORROSION.
With exception of the messed up center bores, it was a nice clean job.
