Your brakes are one of the most important safety systems on your vehicle, and they usually tell you when something's wrong.

Before you head out on a wet day:
• Slow down and avoid sudden braking or steering
• Use low beams (high beams reflect off wet roads and add glare)
• Leave extra space between you and the car ahead
• Make sure your wipers and defrost are working well
• Check your tires: worn tread and low pressure raise the risk of hydroplaning

What is a tire rotation, and why does it matter?

Each position on your vehicle wears tires differently because of weight, steering, and braking. A rotation moves your tires to new positions (front to back, side to side, or both) so they wear more evenly.

Why it helps:
• More even tread wear and longer tire life
• Balanced handling and traction
• A chance to spot issues early, like under-inflation, worn shocks, or misaligned wheels

Cooler fall mornings are here in Lynchburg and Forest, and your tires notice.

Tire pressure drops about 1 PSI for every 10-degree drop in outside temperature, so a tire that was fine in September may be running low now.

A few tips:
• Use the PSI on the sticker inside the driver's door jamb (or your owner's manual), not the number on the tire sidewall. That's the tire's maximum, not the recommended pressure
• Check when tires are cold: first thing in the morning or after the car has been parked a few hours
• Don't forget the spare

Not sure if your tires have much life left? Your tires usually give you warning signs before they become a safety problem.

Quick things to look for:
• Low tread. Tread must be at least 2/32" to be within legal limits, and more is better for wet roads
• Vibration in the steering wheel or seat
• Your vehicle pulling to one side
• Bumps, bulges, tears, or cracks in the sidewall
• Uneven wear across the tread
