Knieriem Tire Service was started in a wooden two bay garage in 1968 by Ralph Knieriem Sr. Ralph worked for the Kelly Springfield during the day and he opened the tire shop in the evenings after a full day of work. At that time, all lug nuts were hand wrenched and a hand manual Brannick tire machine dismounted the tires. They were then filled by a gas powered air compressor and then they were bubb
le balanced. The original wooden garage was replaced in 1973 with a 50' x 40' tin garage. In 1978 Ralph Sr.'s second oldest son Jeff began working for him after school. Then in 1980, a senior on work study at Beall High School, Jeff came to work on customers vehicles every afternoon along side is Dad and Brother. In 1983 Knieriem Tires started doing service work and updated equipment was purchased. Then, in 1985 the business was expanded with a 4 bay garage, waiting room, and office. New employees were hired more equipment was purchased, including a new Hunter alignment machine and computer balancers. The grand opening was April 14, 1986. The business expanded again in 1996 when a two bay pole building replaced the tin garage. This was done to accommodate one-ton trucks including ambulances and box trucks for alignments and oil changes. In 1996, Ralph Sr. sold Knieriem Tires to his son Jeff. Knieriem Tires has come a long way over the years; employees have come and gone and there have been some changes. But with the patronage of our loyal customers, our current hard working employees, and everything that Jeff has done to make the businesses succeed; that is what makes us Knieriem Tires.
