06/23/2026

5K Rules Update:
With the growing popularity of 8HP transmission swaps and quick change differential options, we decided reevaluate our transmission and differential rule for the 2026 $5K Shootout. We will be taking off the ban for dog box tranmissions and quick change differentials but the tire rule is being modified to require DOT tires only.

1. Transmission rule will now allow the use of all transmission types: h-pattern manuals, dog-engagement manuals, automatics, sequentials, etc.

2. Differential rule will now allow the use of quick change differentials.

3. Tire rule is now a maximum width of 245mm, a minimum treadwear of 300, and MUST be a DOT approved tire (for highway use). The size, treadwear, and DOT approval is determined by the OEM markings on the side of the tire, these markings may not be tampered with.

A few years ago we did change the rule to allow dog box transmissions and quick change differentials and then reverted back to not allowing them. We intend to keep this new rule as the permanent staple for the $5K Shootout going forward.

*Examples of popular drift tires WITH DOT approval: Kenda Vezda, Zeknova Supersport RS, Accelera 351, Ironman iMove, MuchoMacho

*Examples of popular drift tires WITHOUT DOT approval: Valino Pergea O8C
