City of Gonzales, Texas

City of Gonzales, Texas The internationally recognized sign of freedom, the Come and Take IT flag was born from that battle. We’re not just about relaxation in Gonzales.

Today, Gonzales is still rich in history, but we are much more. We are the home to the Texas Junior High School State Rodeo Finals every May and we have rodeos at our JB Wells Park Arena almost every weekend. If rodeo is not to your liking take a look at our outstanding 9 hole Golf Course or see the Come and Take It cannon at our Memorial Museum. We are business friendly too. Just ask Adams Extrac

t, Southern Clay, Jim H. Wilson, or Tropical Fusions a few of the companies based here. We are the crossroads of the Eagle-Ford Shale Oil Field. Such oil companies as EOG, Lucas Oil, and Marathon Oil have made Gonzales their regional home. The Texas-Northern-Gonzales Railroad provides personal service you will never see with the large national railroads. We invite you to “Come and Take It” and once you do, you’ll never let it go.

🚴 Ride Safe Gonzales 🚴

The Gonzales Police Department would like to remind everyone about the Texas Bicycle and Electric Bicycle Laws (Texas Transportation Code Chapter 551). Whether you’re riding for fun, exercise, or transportation, following these laws helps keep you and everyone around you safe.

🚲 General Bicycle Rules

* Ride only on a permanent seat attached to the bicycle.
* Do not carry more passengers than the bicycle is designed for.
* Keep at least one hand on the handlebars at all times.
* Never attach your bicycle, skates, sled, coaster, or toy vehicle to another vehicle on a roadway.

🛣 Riding on the Road

* Ride as close as practicable to the right side of the roadway when traveling slower than traffic, unless:
* Passing another vehicle.
* Preparing for a left turn.
* Avoiding hazards, parked vehicles, pedestrians, animals, or unsafe road conditions.
* The lane is too narrow for a bicycle and a motor vehicle to safely travel side by side.
* On one-way streets with two or more lanes, cyclists may ride near the left curb.
* Riding two abreast is permitted when:
* Remaining within a single lane.
* Not impeding the normal flow of traffic.
* More than two abreast is only allowed on designated bicycle-only paths or roadways.

🔦 Required Safety Equipment

Every bicycle must have:

* A working brake capable of making the wheel skid on dry pavement.
* When riding at night:
* A white front light visible from at least 500 feet.
* A red rear reflector or red rear light visible from at least 500 feet.

⚡ Electric Bicycle Information

* The motor must stop providing power when the rider stops pedaling or applies the brakes.
* Riders must be 15 years of age or older to operate a Class 3 electric bicycle.
* Riders under 15 may ride as a passenger on a Class 3 electric bicycle where appropriate.

🏛 Local Regulations

Local governments may prohibit bicycles on certain sidewalks and establish speed limits on bicycle paths and shared-use trails. Electric bicycles are generally allowed anywhere traditional bicycles are permitted, except on certain natural-surface trails that are closed to motor vehicles.

Thank you for doing your part to keep Gonzales safe. Please obey all traffic laws, stay alert, and help make our streets safe for everyone.

🚔 Help Keep Gonzales Safe 🚔

The Gonzales Police Department reminds all residents to follow the City of Gonzales ordinances regarding the operation of golf carts, neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs), and recreational off-highway vehicles (ROVs). These rules are in place to help keep everyone on our streets safe.

ARTICLE 12.1100 – Operational Rules

✅ Drivers must have a valid driver’s license and obey all traffic laws.

✅ These vehicles may only be operated on streets with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or less.

🚫 Operation is not permitted on sidewalks, pedestrian walkways, jogging paths, or park trails, except for authorized City personnel performing official duties.

🚗 Utility vehicles, ATVs, and golf carts are entitled to the full use of a traffic lane. Motorists should share the road, and drivers may not lane split or pass another vehicle within the same lane.

🚦 Crossing a multi-lane federal, county, or state highway is only allowed at intersections controlled by an official traffic signal or traffic-control device.

👨‍👩‍👧 Passengers must not exceed the number of factory-installed seats. Everyone must remain properly seated while the vehicle is moving. Children must be transported safely, and children under 8 years old (unless at least 4 feet 9 inches tall) must be secured in an approved child safety seat.

🅿️ Park only where motor vehicles are legally permitted. Do not park in no-parking zones, block traffic, sidewalks, or passageways, or park in accessible spaces without a valid disabled parking placard and eligible occupant.

🚫 Vehicles may not tow another cart, trailer, vehicle, bicycle, skateboard, roller skater, or similar object or person.

🌧️ Do not operate these vehicles during inclement weather, in fog, smoke, or whenever visibility is less than 500 feet.

🔑 Never leave the vehicle unattended with the key or starting device inside.

🍺 Open containers of alcohol are prohibited while operating these vehicles on authorized city streets.

Thank you for doing your part to keep Gonzales safe. Your cooperation helps protect everyone in our community.
