It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Mervin "Merv" Rumpel, founder of Pleasure-Way Industries.
Merv's story is one of determination, hard work, and an unwavering belief in doing things the right way. His journey in the recreational vehicle industry began in 1968 when he established Glenwood Trailer Sales in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. After nearly two decades of working closely with RV owners and manufacturers, Merv recognized an opportunity to create something of his own.
In 1986, at the age of 54, he founded Pleasure-Way Industries with a simple ambition: to build a better motorhome.
What began with a small team building just ten motorhomes in the back shop of his dealership grew into a company recognized across North America for its craftsmanship, quality, and dedication to its customers.
But Merv's greatest contribution went far beyond the motorhomes themselves. He established the values that continue to guide our company today. His commitment to quality, his respect for the people behind every product, and his belief that a company's reputation is earned through its work have remained central to Pleasure-Way for four decades.
Even after stepping away from the day-to-day operations of the business, Merv remained a familiar presence at Pleasure-Way. He continued to visit the factory, take an interest in the company's progress, and share in the milestones of the business he had started so many years earlier.
Today, the company Merv founded remains firmly rooted in the Rumpel family. Under the leadership of his son Dean, and with his granddaughters Skylar and Katia also working at Pleasure-Way. It is a remarkable family legacy, and one that Merv had the opportunity to witness firsthand as the company continued to grow.
On behalf of everyone at Pleasure-Way Industries, we extend our deepest condolences to the Rumpel family, Merv's friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His contributions to our company, our community, and the recreational vehicle industry will be remembered with tremendous gratitude and respect.
