🔋 DO YOU KNOW THE CORRECT JUMPER-CABLE ORDER?

Before connecting anything, make sure both vehicles are turned off, in Park, with parking brakes set. Check the owner’s manuals for designated jump points.

Then remember:

1️⃣ RED clamp to the dead battery’s positive terminal
2️⃣ RED clamp to the good battery’s positive terminal
3️⃣ BLACK clamp to the good battery’s negative terminal
4️⃣ BLACK clamp to clean, unpainted metal on the disabled vehicle—away from the battery

Start the assisting vehicle, then try starting the disabled vehicle. Once it starts, remove the cables in the reverse order.

Never jump a battery that is cracked, leaking, swollen, or possibly frozen. Hybrid and electric vehicles may require different procedures—always follow the owner’s manual.

🛞 HAVING A SPARE TIRE ISN’T ENOUGH.

Imagine discovering a flat tire miles from town—and then learning that the jack handle, lowering tool, or wheel-lock key is missing.

While your vehicle is safely parked at home:

✅ Locate the spare tire
✅ Find the jack and lug wrench
✅ Confirm you have every extension and adapter
✅ Check for a wheel-lock key
✅ Learn how the spare is released or lowered
✅ Check the spare’s air pressure
✅ Make sure the lug nuts can be loosened

Your owner’s manual will show the correct procedure for your vehicle. A few minutes of practice at home can save hours of frustration along the road.

Stop by Harry K NAPA in Winner, Gregory, or Mission for tire gauges, inflators, jacks, lug wrenches, and roadside supplies.

❄️ DIESEL OWNERS: WINTER STARTS BEFORE THE FUEL GELS.

Cold weather can cause paraffin wax in diesel fuel to thicken and clog the fuel filter. Once that happens, an additive may not be enough to get you moving again.

Prepare before the temperature drops:

✅ Use a quality anti-gel treatment as directed
✅ Replace an aging fuel filter
✅ Drain the water separator if equipped
✅ Test both batteries on dual-battery systems
✅ Inspect the block-heater cord and plug
✅ Keep the fuel tank reasonably full to reduce condensation

Always follow your owner’s manual and the directions on the additive. Never add gasoline to diesel fuel.

Stop by Harry K NAPA in Winner, Gregory, or Mission for diesel treatment, fuel filters, batteries, extension cords, and other cold-weather supplies.

🛻 STILL BOUNCING AFTER THE BUMP?

Shocks and struts do more than make the ride comfortable. They help keep your tires in contact with the road and your vehicle under control.

Watch for these signs of worn suspension parts:

⚠️ Excessive bouncing after a bump
⚠️ Nose-diving when braking
⚠️ Leaning or swaying in turns
⚠️ Uneven or cupped tire wear
⚠️ Fluid leaking from a shock or strut
⚠️ A rougher or less-controlled ride

Rough roads, gravel, heavy loads, and everyday mileage can all take their toll.

If your vehicle doesn’t feel as stable as it once did, have the suspension inspected. When it’s time for shocks, struts, or related parts, stop by Harry K NAPA in Winner, Gregory, or Mission.

⚠️ CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT ON? PAY ATTENTION TO HOW IT’S ACTING.

A check-engine light is your vehicle’s way of saying something needs attention—but a steady light and a flashing light do not mean the same thing.

🟡 Steady light: The vehicle may still drive normally, but it should be diagnosed soon. Sometimes the cause is as simple as a loose gas cap.

🔴 Flashing light: This can indicate a serious engine misfire that may damage the catalytic converter. Reduce speed, pull over safely, and have the vehicle checked before continuing.

Never ignore unusual noises, shaking, loss of power, overheating, or other warning lights.

Need a code reader—or parts after the problem is identified? Stop by Harry K NAPA in Winner, Gregory, or Mission.

🥶 WILL YOUR HEATER AND DEFROSTER BE READY?

The first cold morning is a bad time to discover that your heater barely warms the cab—or your defroster can’t clear the windshield.

Test them now and watch for:

⚠️ Weak airflow from the vents
⚠️ Air that never gets warm
⚠️ Windows that take too long to clear
⚠️ A blower that works only on certain settings
⚠️ A sweet smell or damp carpet inside the vehicle

Some problems are simple. Others may point to a blower motor, thermostat, coolant leak, or cabin air filter that needs attention.

If something isn’t working properly, have it checked before colder weather arrives. Stop by Harry K NAPA in Winner, Gregory, or Mission for the parts and supplies you need.
