🌶️ Sneak peek… tomorrow is the festival! 🌶️

Today’s mission: buy Hatch chiles, roast them, peel them, peel them AGAIN, bag them, FoodSaver them, and get them into the freezer.

Four. Long. Hours. 😳

The good news? We now have enough Hatch chiles to feed an army… and I’m VERY thankful for the full-size fridge/freezer in this rig! The freezer is officially ½ full of Hatch chiles. 😂🌶️

The bad news? I’m tired. Like really tired.

So, I believe my work here is done. The chiles are sealed, the freezer is full, and it’s officially time for a drink. 🍹😂

Tomorrow… LET THE FESTIVAL BEGIN! 🎉🌶️

Any guesses how many bags we ended with over 40 lbs?

Took a bike ride at Elephant Butte lake, Three Sisters turn off. Road it to the middle that used to be covered in water years ago.. Lake is down to 1.5% capacity.

Lighting Strikes over Lake Cochiti

A couple of small but beautiful lightning strikes I captured at Cochiti Lake. ⚡️ Even though they weren’t huge bolts lighting up the entire sky, they still made for some pretty incredible moments. Sometimes it’s the little flashes that remind you just how powerful and beautiful a storm can be.

**Always Be Prepared… even when you’re “glamping.” 😂**

Somewhere outside Santa Fe, New Mexico, we're happily camping at **Cochiti Lake**. Full hookups. Beautiful views. No boondocking planned.

What could possibly go wrong?

**7:30 AM:** Power goes out to the entire campground.

We don't notice.

Our Victron MultiPlus seamlessly switches us from shore power to batteries/inverter and continues happily running **both A/Cs and basically everything else in the rig.**

Which is fantastic.

Until you don't realize it's doing it. 😂

**Noon:** Suddenly, all 110V power in the trailer disappears.

MultiPlus is in overheat protection.

Grab the Geek fans — dead.

Grab the Jackery, plug the fans into it and start blasting the MultiPlus with cooler air.

After about 20 minutes of troubleshooting, we finally discover the *actual* problem:

**WE HAVEN'T HAD SHORE POWER FOR 4+ HOURS.**

We've been running two A/Cs, appliances, computers and everything else off our batteries, rooftop solar and inverter.

Batteries: **60%.**

Call the state park.

*"Oh yeah… there's an area-wide power outage."*

Well. That explains a few things. 😂

Power company says it'll be fixed by **3 PM.**

No problem.

Out come the portable solar panels. Rig goes into boondocking mode. One A/C. Conserve power.

3 PM becomes **4 PM.**

4 PM becomes **5:45 PM.**

Sun starts dropping. Solar starts giving us the equivalent of thoughts and prayers.

5:45 becomes…

**10:45 PM.**

Batteries: **25%.**

No problem! We carry a generator.

We carry a fuel tank.

We carry a fuel pump.

We carry the adapters.

We carry…

**zero gasoline.**

Because we're at a campground with full hookups. 🤦‍♂️

Closest gas station: **27 minutes away.**

ROAD TRIP!

We pass four utility trucks and workers on our way out. Excellent — they're working on it!

Drive 27 minutes to a giant travel stop off I-25.

**Permanently closed.**

Of course it is.

Next gas station: another 10 minutes down the road at the casino.

Fill the tank with six gallons. Tina grabs dinner from the casino diner and, naturally, drops $20 in the slots while waiting.

Because apparently we're making an evening of this now. 😂

Back to camp.

Sun is gone.

Batteries: **19%.**

We pass **zero** utility trucks coming back in.

Uh oh.

Power still out.

Generator comes out. Fuel pump comes out. Generator fires up.

**WE HAVE POWER!**

Time to relax.

Except…

**No internet.**

Starlink is online, but nobody's home.

Apparently all the power cycling scrambled something, so now it's another 20 minutes resetting the network and reconnecting devices.

Eventually everything is functional enough to call it a day.

Kill the generator around 11 PM.

Batteries: **45%.**

Bed.

**6 AM:** Solar is already doing solar things.

Batteries: **39%.**

And sometime overnight…

🎉 **SHORE POWER CAME BACK!** 🎉

Plug back into the pedestal and start another day.

Victron is acting a little weird.

Starlink is acting a little weird.

We'll deal with those adventures later. 😂

# # # Lesson learned… or really, lesson confirmed:

**Always be prepared.**

We had absolutely ZERO intention of boondocking on this trip, but we still had:

☀️ Portable solar panels
⚡ Generator
⛽ Fuel tank & pump
🔋 Jackery portable power station
💧 50-gallon emergency fresh-water bladder

Ironically, the only thing we *didn't* have was six gallons of gasoline.

Without all that gear, nothing about yesterday would have been catastrophic.

But it would have been **a whole lot less comfortable.**

Sometimes RV life is beautiful lakes, sunsets and cocktails on the patio.

And sometimes it's driving around New Mexico after dark looking for gasoline because your "full-hookup campground" unexpectedly turned into a boondocking site. 😂

**Loving Life. Having Fun.**

Even when the campground has other plans.

And remember:

**Never ask, “What do we have planned today?” unless you're prepared for ANY possible answer.** 😎
