Your car is trying to talk to you!

Is your car groaning in pain when you drive it? You might have a bad wheel bearing!

A wheel bearing that is going bad typically sounds like a deep rumble as you drive, sometimes with a metallic grinding noise. Thankfully, you usually get a warning before it goes south.

A couple of tips for diagnosing a bad wheel bearing:

- The sound will increase in pitch as the vehicle speeds up and decrease as it slows down. If the sounds fluctuates in pitch as the vehicle is driving, it is more likely coming from the engine or transmission.

- Try moving the steering wheel back and forth slightly as you drive. Does the sound change? The sound of a bad wheel bearing will change as you turn because it is being loaded and unloaded.

- Is your ABS or traction control light on? The wheel speed sensor in the wheel hub can be affected by a bad wheel bearing.

This F-150 is owned by an Abilene firefighter. It had a leak from the oil pan. This is a common problem on the F-150s with the 3.5 turbo V6, because the factory oil pan is a two piece design that is mostly made out of plastic. When the plastic cracks, the only fix is to replace it with the updated one piece aluminum oil pan.

This firefighter was on his 48 hour shift, and we were able to finish the maintenance on his truck right across the street from the fire station. He was able to drive home in his newly repaired vehicle, without ever visiting a shop!

This customer had a persistent leak in their AC system, which ended up being located on their evaporator core. Evaporators are interesting - they are usually a sub $100 part, but the work to get to them often takes all day. On this particular ride, the entire dash, center console and steering column had to come out.

Remember, there is always someone who can do it for a cheaper price, but you may not like the results. Imagine having one problem solved and another show up because one ground wire wasn't reinstalled!

Broken timing chain? No problem! Sparky's Garage can fix it in your driveway!

This customer's car died on him when he was driving home from work, and it wouldn't start again. After a quick look under the valve cover, it was obvious that the timing chain was broken.
