Driver's education requirements: Students must be at least 15.9 years old to join a driver’s education course. (This is recommended for students eager to get started quickly.)

—30 hours of classroom instruction with a final exam passed (80%+).
—2 hour parent class (this class is good for 5 years and can be used between schools if a letter/certificate is given from previous school.
—12 Behind the Wheel hours
—6 Observation hours

*Students must be at least 16 years old to apply for their learner’s permit to get behind the wheel for lessons (with a school or at home).

**Once all of the above are complete, a student must pay for their RMV certificate (some schools may add this to their program cost-otherwise student must pay in order to become certified.

***Once certified, a road test can be booked (either by a school or individually booked by student.

(Before taking a Road Test students must also complete at least 40 hours of supervised driving. If you complete a driver skills development program, you can complete 30 hours of supervised driving with a parent or guardian.)
