Can you polish matte paint?

No. Polishing adds shine, and on matte that means shiny, patchy spots that are very hard to fix. So the wash has to be done right every time.

1. Foam first, so nothing touches dry dirt
2. Gentle hand wash
3. A ceramic coating made for matte finishes

The finish stays flat, and dirt has a harder time sticking. A coating doesn't replace washing. It makes washing easier.

Will mud stain matte paint?

Factory matte can't be polished like gloss, so a stain that sets in is very hard to fix. This Range Rover Sport got a ceramic coating made for matte finishes.

7 weeks later: the mud runs off, one rinse cleans it, and water beads and rolls off every panel. Still flat, no shine added.

A coating doesn't replace washing. It makes washing easier and protects the finish between washes.

Rinse first or foam first?

We foam the car while it's still dry. The foam softens the dirt and lifts it off the paint, so when the pressure washer comes through, it carries the dirt away instead of dragging it across the paint.

It's the first step in keeping wash marks off your paint.

3 weeks of brake dust. Watch the fingertip.

This BMW is on a 3-week schedule with us, and brake dust is what builds up fastest. Left on, it bakes onto the finish in Houston heat.

How we clean wheels:
1. Iron remover to break down the brake dust
2. Foam on the wheel and tire
3. Brush the tire
4. Brush every spoke
5. Rinse
6. Protection spray, so dust has a harder time sticking next time

Same wheel, same fingertip test at the end.

Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. Fresh off delivery and headed to a private collection.

It got a full preservation detail: the interior cleaned out after transport (the windows had been left down), and the paint and wheels cleaned with care. On a finish this old and this rare, the goal is to preserve it, not to polish it away.

This Lincoln Aviator is ceramic coated. Watch the rinse.

A coating doesn't make paint invincible, and it doesn't replace washing. What it does: water and dirt let go more easily, so a gentle maintenance wash keeps it looking like new.

This one got a one-step correction and a 3-year coating. This visit was its maintenance wash plus an interior detail.
