🌊Entry Level Inland Deckhand🌊
Want to work on the water and learn a hands-on trade? Kirby is hiring Deckhands for inland pushboats and barges! If you don’t mind hard work, weather, and close quarters then check it out.
What you’ll do:
🌊Handle lines and rigging to secure vessels, barges, docks, and locks
🌊Help load and discharge barges as water levels change
🌊Keep the boat in top shape: sweeping, washing, painting, and minor repairs
🌊Support safe operations and follow safety instructions from the crew
🌊Other duties like cooking, cleaning, and general maintenance
The schedule:
🌊Rotations like 30/15, 28/14, 20/10, etc. 12-hour shifts, including holidays. You’ll live and work on the boat, so you’ll be away from home for stretches at a time.
What you need:
🌊18+ years old, valid driver’s license + TWIC card
🌊High School/GED preferred, 12 months work experience a plus
🌊Basic computer skills and ability to read/write English
🌊Physically fit: able to lift 75 lbs, climb ladders, walk 2-3 miles/day
🌊Must pass Coast Guard physical + drug testing. No DWI/DUI in last 3 years, no careless driving
Pay & Benefits:
