How a Starter Motor Works: The Bendix Gear Engagement! 🚗⚙️

That tiny gear has a big job! ⚡⚙️

When you turn the key or push the start button in your car, an electric starter motor engages a small pinion gear (the Bendix gear) that shoots outward to mesh with the teeth on the engine flywheel or flexplate.

Once engaged, it spins the flywheel to crank the engine until combustion takes over, after which the pinion gear retracts to prevent overspinning the starter!

How It Works:

🔌 Solenoid Activation: The starter solenoid shoots the pinion gear forward into the flywheel teeth.

🔄 Engine Crank: The high-torque electric motor turns the flywheel, cranking the pistons.

⚡ Retraction: Once the engine fires up, the gear automatically disengages and retracts.
