Backing up a trailer doesn't have to be complicated.

✔️ Take it slow.
✔️ Use small steering corrections.
✔️ Keep your hands at the bottom of the steering wheel.
✔️ Use your mirrors and watch both sides of the trailer.
✔️ If you're unsure, pull forward and reset.

The faster you go, the faster mistakes happen. Patience and practice are the keys to confident trailer backing.

Remember: slow is smooth, and smooth is safe ⛓️

Before you hit the road, ask yourself these three questions:

1️⃣ Is my boat properly balanced on the trailer?
2️⃣ Are all winch straps, transom straps, and tie-downs secure?
3️⃣ Could anything shift during transport or while launching?

Taking a few extra minutes to secure your boat properly can help prevent damage on the road and at the ramp. A thorough pre-trip check helps ensure your next trip to the water starts and ends safely.

Proper hitching is one of the most important steps in safe towing.

Before every trip:

✔️ Position the coupler over the hitch ball and lower it securely into place.
✔️ Lock the coupler latch.
✔️ Attach and cross the safety chains beneath the tongue.
✔️ Connect the breakaway cable.
✔️ Plug in the trailer wiring and test all lights.
✔️ Raise and secure the jack.
✔️ Perform a final walk-around inspection.

Taking a few extra minutes before you hit the road can help prevent equipment damage, trailer disconnects, and unsafe towing situations.

Safe towing starts before the wheels start turning.

🔍 Uncovering the Mystery: Missing VIN Label?

Your trailer's VIN label is more than just a sticker—it's a key piece of identification used for registration, titling, insurance, recalls, and ownership verification.

If your VIN label is missing, damaged, or unreadable, don't ignore it. Start by locating any stamped VIN numbers on the trailer frame and gathering your registration or title paperwork. From there, contact the manufacturer or your local DMV to learn the proper steps for obtaining a replacement VIN label or inspection.

Knowing where your VIN is located—and ensuring it's legible—can save time and headaches down the road ⛓️

Not all weight ratings mean the same thing.

GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) is the maximum allowable weight of the trailer and its cargo.

GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) is the maximum weight that can be supported by a single axle.

GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating) is the maximum allowable weight of the tow vehicle and trailer combined.

Understanding these ratings helps prevent overloading, improves towing performance, and keeps you safer on the road. Before loading up, take a moment to know your numbers and stay within your equipment's limits ⛓️

One of the best ways to prevent sway is proper weight distribution. Keep your load balanced, avoid overloading the rear of the trailer, and always secure cargo before hitting the road.

If sway does occur, stay calm, keep the steering wheel straight, and gradually reduce speed. Avoid sudden braking or sharp steering inputs.

A little preparation goes a long way toward a safer haul ⛓️
