It adds up faster than a lot of people expect. In Ohio, once you hit 12 points within a two year period, the BMV can suspend your license. (bmv.ohio.gov)
Before that, the state also sends a warning letter when you reach 6 points in two years. If you do reach 12, reinstatement can mean a six month suspension, a remedial driving course, proof of insurance, a reinstatement fee, and retaking the full driver license exam. (bmv.ohio.gov)
