🥵 92° Outside. 110° Heat Index. A/C Isn’t a Luxury—It’s a Safety Issue.

The last few days have been brutally hot across Central Indiana, and we’ve been responding to A/C failures on everything from construction equipment to medium-duty trucks.

Here’s what we’ve seen recently:

🚜 CAT 259D3 Skid Steer
A torn suction line left the operator without A/C. We performed an in-field repair to get the machine back to work until replacement parts arrive. The system is now cooling to 50°F.

🚛 International Water Truck
The A/C system was fully charged, but a failed blend door actuator disabled A/C operation. The truck was needed immediately, so there wasn’t time to remove the dash and complete the repair. The issue was diagnosed, and the customer now has a plan to get it repaired when downtime allows.

🚛 Sterling Water Truck
This one nearly caused the driver to suffer heat exhaustion. We found the system low on refrigerant and pressure tested it, locating leaks at two service ports. After repairing the leaks and recharging the system, we also discovered a broken blend door linkage allowing heater air into the cab—on a 110° heat index day. We disassembled the HVAC housing and secured the blend door to eliminate the heat until permanent repairs can be made. The truck is now cooling to 58°F.

🚛 Freightliner M2
No A/C at all. Pressure testing revealed a failed compressor housing seal. We replaced the compressor, evacuated and recharged the system, and restored vent temperatures to the mid-50s.

🚧 CAT Roller
The A/C system was fully charged, but the cooling package was completely plugged with construction debris. After thoroughly cleaning the cooling stack, the system returned to normal operation and is now cooling to 64°F.

When temperatures climb into the 90s with heat indexes over 100°, A/C isn’t just about comfort—it’s about operator safety, reducing fatigue, maintaining productivity, and preventing heat-related illness.

If your trucks or equipment aren’t keeping operators cool, don’t wait until they stop working or someone gets sick. Many A/C issues can be diagnosed and repaired on-site, keeping your fleet moving.
