There’s a reason original GM interior parts from the 60s and 70s still feel different than many reproduction parts today.

Factory GM armrests used metal reinforcement underneath the padding and vinyl, while many reproduction versions switched to plastic.

Even some reproduction door panel headers went from metal to plastic.

Little details like this are the kind of things survivor car enthusiasts notice immediately. The factory craftsmanship back then was just different.

What reproduction part do you think still misses the mark the most?

Most people would rip this carpet out... But on survivor cars like this, where a little patina is okay, we’d rather re-dye than replace.

This old carpet was badly faded, so instead of installing new carpet, we brought the original color back using RIT dye and a simple pump sprayer.

The transformation happens FAST. 🔥

Happy Memorial Day 🇺🇸

As we enjoy time with family, friends, and a little BBQ today, it’s important to remember the reason for this holiday and the heroes who made those freedoms possible.

My grandfather served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII with the 388th Bomb Group and earned a Purple Heart.

My father proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

Today we honor and remember all those who served and sacrificed for our country. 🇺🇸✝️

There’s a reason original GM interiors from the 60s and 70s still look different than reproduction parts today.

These factory door panels used layered construction underneath the vinyl to create that deep ribbed texture you just don’t see reproduced correctly anymore.

I forgot to mention in the video that the window crank k**b originally started out clear from the factory. Over time, they usually turn into that yellowish tint you see on original survivor cars.

It’s little details like this that separate original survivor cars from restored cars. The factory craftsmanship was just different back then.

This Mustang GT convertible sat for years after being inherited from the owner’s father.

Now it’s getting a full mechanical and suspension restoration:

302 with a roller cam
C4 transmission rebuild
Engine bay detail
Suspension and brake restoration

Some people would opt to keep the original 289 engine. We're going for a bit more power with a 302.

People sleep on white classic cars until they see one done right.

A clean white muscle car just hits different. Especially when the body lines, chrome, and stance do all the talking.

Here’s a 1966 Impala SS 427 L36 sitting next to a 1970 Chevelle with an LT1 swap, both proving white deserves way more respect in the hot rod world.

So settle the debate...

Most people would never notice details like this.

Original GM accessory floor mats.
Factory 1970 carpet.
Even the manufacturer tag from Compton, California is still attached.

This is the kind of survivor car detail you almost never see anymore, and part of why original GM interiors from the 60s and 70s still feel different from reproduction parts today.

Little details like this tell the real story of a car. The untouched stuff. The things that survived all these years.

What’s one original factory detail you think reproduction parts still can’t get right?

People always ask what I daily drive while building and restoring all these old cars.

Truth is… it’s a bone stock 2015 F150 Platinum with the 5.0 Coyote. 😂

30-something thousand miles, flex fuel, still under Ford warranty, and honestly it works too well for me to mess with it.

Meanwhile I’m over here pumping E85 for less than half the price of premium gas while everyone else in California cries at the pump. 😂

Yes, mileage drops a bit. But for the price difference, the math still works for me.

And before anyone asks… yes, it’s VERY tempting to throw a blower on it. But after spending all day wrenching on other people’s cars, having one reliable vehicle I never have to think about is hard to beat.

My wife keeps telling me I should post photos of myself on here every once in a while so people know I’m actually a real person and not just a random voice behind the camera.

Personally, I think the cars are a lot better looking than I am… but apparently people want to see who’s actually behind the builds. 😂
