Q: Is a 2" spring spacer the same as 2" from an adjustable height shock?

A: No, a spring spacer will preload the factory spring, and eliminate the equal amount of droop from your suspension. So a 2" lift spacer, will eliminate 2" of droop travel. An adjustable height shock can achieve the same amount of lift, and maintain a lot more of the droop - because the adjustable shock's overall length and stroke is greater than the stock shock.

$8500 and it still ain’t a Raptor? How could that be worth it?

Well the FOX 3.0 Live Valve coilovers and shocks for ‘21+ F-150s are not only worth every penny; when compared to the Factory Race series, it’s a little easier to see how special it of a value these are despite their admittedly astronomical price.

But we get it, it’s hard to see the light without seeing what they can do, so before you resign this to simply being a cash grab, make sure to head over to our YouTube Channel at 3 PM PST this Friday (7/18) to catch our review as soon as it drops and see exactly what we are talking about.

Fox has quite the lineup now for many applications, reaching all the way up to the newer 3.2in bodied internal bypass shocks - their flagship design. But never fear, going from stock to the entry level 2.0 shocks is often a night and day difference for many drivers.

Point is to get in the game and have more fun, then decide what's needed when you hit the limits.

The introduction of rear links on the Tacoma will improve offroad stability through smoother movement of the rear axle, and more of the damping force will be done through the shocks - rather than how leaf springs from the previous generation created a ton of friction and resistance before the shocks could do their job.

One tradeoff is less stability from side to side movement which you typically see with heavy loads, leaf springs were better under those conditions, but going coil springs is a vastly improved experience for most Tacoma owners for comfort and offroad performance.

Understanding what spring and/or strut spacers do to stock suspension will prepare you for ride quality issues down the line.

We always say the Bilstein 5100s should have been what Ford used on the Broncos from the factory.

If you want something cheap that makes washboard roads and your daily commute that little bit more plush without spending a whole lot, they are definitely our go to option, but that doesn’t mean they are the end all be all.

So make sure to tune in this Friday (7/10) at 3 PM PAT for episode two of our buyer’s guide to see how they stack up to the competition.
