I saw this Heavy Rescue truck from Flanders Fire Dept. at the 4th of July parade. I lettered that truck back in 2010 I believe. Brian Williams (may he rest in peace) and I worked at the theme of the truck for a few days until it came to us. Black truck with the number 7-9-11 made us realize it needed to be a Memorial truck for 9-11. It was like seeing Brian and an old friend!

I got to letter some of the gold on Holbrook’s Engine today. I used Bob Whelan’s Burl on the striping and his take on burnishing on the lettering. It’s kind of an indirect approach that gives a luster to the gold. I also worked on the Eagles somewhat. A work in progress.

I’m now working on Holbrook’s 2 new Seagrave Engines. The first one has white 3M reflective striping. The next one will have black3M reflective striping. They will both be a combination of 23K gold leaf shields, hand painted shields and hand painted goodies. So looking forward to this!

We’re all finished with Jamesport’s new Tanker. It’s a hybrid lettering job. It has vinyl lettering and shields with added hand painted shading and glaze. The flags are 3M vinyl printed from a small flag I painted years ago. The rest of the 250 tribute is all hand painted on 3M enamel receptive clear vinyl. The glaze shading is done with my favorite sponge. Some of the vinyl is reflective but most is not. Unfortunately not everybody wants gold leaf.
