After several hiring processes over the past few years have attracted very few qualified applicants, if any at all, the Township recognizes and agrees that attracting qualified applicants and retaining their seasoned police officers has become extremely challenging. Facing full-time and part-time vacancies, the Township and the FOP have locked in an agreement for contract years 2027, 2028 and 2029 defining the wages and benefits that are competitive, attractive and definitely worth looking at. We are hiring and accepting applications for qualified Part-Time and Full-Time Police Officers.
Qualifications:
1. Possess a diploma from an accredited high school or a graduate equivalency diploma (GED);
2. Be Act 120 Certified under the Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Act (Act 120), or shall have successfully completed Act 120 training and successfully passed the final exam, thus being eligible for Act 120 Certification;
3. Be a United States Citizen;
4. Be physically and mentally fit to perform the full duties of a police officer;
5. Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age;
6. Be eligible to legally operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Successful applicants must also meet all the requirements of the Township’s Civil Service Rules and Regulations that will include a background investigation, and if selected, be required to successfully pass a physical and psychological examination.
An application form and details of the selection process may be obtained at the Stonycreek Township Building located at 1610 Bedford Street, Johnstown, PA 15902. A completed application with a twenty-five ($25.00) (non-refundable application fee) must be filed at the township building by Wednesday, July 1 at 4:00 PM. No mailed in application will be accepted.
The Physical Fitness, Written & Oral Examinations will be conducted on Saturday, July 11, 2026 beginning at 9:00 AM, for the positions of Part Time & Full Time Police Officer.
Full-Time Police Officers Benefits:
1. Fraternal Order of Police Protection for Part & Full Time Officers wishing to join.
2. Under Contract.
3. 2026: $27.25 per hour / $56,680 per year.
2027: $30.00 per hour / $62,400 per year. ($2.75 increase)
2028: $31.75 per hour / $66,040 per year. ($1.75 increase)
2029: $33.50 per hour / $69,680 per year. ($1.75 increase)
4. Family Health Insurance / 0% employee contribution.
5. Eye and Dental Insurance / 0% employee contribution.
6. Retirement / 0% employee contribution.
7. Health Insurance Buy Back Incentive of $250 per month in 2026 and increases to $500 per month in 2027.
8. 457 Plan / Employee Funded Alternate Retirement Plan available. and beginning in 2027. the Township will match up to 3% of the employee's contributions into their 457 Plan.
9. Pension Credit Buy Back for Prior Police Department Service (Part Time) Years available.
10. AFLAC / Employee Funded Alternate Injury and Illness Insurance available.
11. Life Insurance.
12. Vacation Time, Sick Time and Bereavement.
13. Longevity.
14. Full Complement of Equipment and Uniforms are issued upon initial hire and $500 Clothing Allowance provided yearly After the first year and the Clothing Allowance increases to $650 in 2027.

16. Overtime for Holidays Hours Worked and beginning in 2027, double time for any employee who works on Christmas or Independence Day if they are already on overtime.
17. 12-hour Permanent Day or Night Shift schedule based on seniority with exceptions.

19. Overtime Scheduled Equally on a rotating schedule with exceptions.
20. Unlimited Access to Overtime with restrictions available.

Part-Time Police Officers Benefits:

3. 2026: $19.95 Per Hour for year one with $.50 longevity increases.
2027: $30.00 Per Hour ($10.05 Increase From 2026)
2028: $31.75 Per Hour ($1.75 Increase from 2027)
2029: $33.50 Per Hour ($1.75 Increase from 2028)
4. $.75 Shift Incentive for any hour worked between 7pm Thursday through 7am Sunday.
5. $150 Work Incentive for Part-Time Officers that work sixty-four (64) hours in a pay period with restrictions in 2026 and this incentive increases to $250 per month when the requirements are met in 2027.
6. A Part-Time Officer can accumulate 2.5 hours of Personal Time Off (PTO) when they work sixty-four (64) hours in a pay period with restrictions.
7. Overtime for holiday hours worked.
8. 457 Plan / Employee Funded Alternate Retirement Plan Available. The Township will match up to 3% of the employee's contributions to their 457 Plan beginning in 2027.
9. AFLAC / Employee Funded Alternate Injury and Illness Insurance Available.
