What is happening along 7th Street is unacceptable.

For miles, businesses have had their entrances blocked, access restricted, and customer traffic drastically reduced. Local business owners are losing thousands of dollars in revenue while trying to keep their doors open, pay employees, and continue serving the community.

Road improvements are one thing. Cutting off access to businesses for days and weeks at a time is another.

To make matters worse, construction equipment has been parked on private property and crews have been driving across private lots without permission. Local businesses should not be expected to absorb financial losses or surrender the use of their property simply because a construction project is taking place.

We support improving our roads, but there has to be a better way. The people making these decisions need to remember that behind every blocked driveway and closed entrance is a business owner, employees, and families who depend on that business to make a living.

If you can, please continue supporting the businesses along 7th Street during this construction. They need your support now more than ever.
