Clocks went back last night. That's one free hour, and there are worse ways to spend it than behind a 5.0 V8.

Head out Highway 410, or up Chuckanut if you've got the whole afternoon, and take the long way home.

Next time you're in the Bellevue Square garage, count the black and silver SUVs. Then picture parking this one.

New tires, right as the passes start talking about snow. Good timing.

This 2018 Explorer Sport has the twin-turbo V6, four-wheel drive and a third row, which covers most of what a Kent family asks of an SUV from October to March: ski lessons at Snoqualmie, Thanksgiving with the in-laws in Yakima, and six kids after the game in Auburn. The heated wheel and heated seats handle the 6 a.m. frost.

When the Bronco came back in 2021, Ford built a First Edition to mark the return, and they were spoken for almost immediately. Five years later, here's one in Cactus Green with a gray top and 21,000 miles.

It's still the best way to spend a Friday afternoon getting out of town. Highway 410 toward Rainier, a forest road to a campsite nobody else found, roof panels off on the last dry weekend of October. There's even an engine block heater for the frosty mornings at camp.

Downtown Seattle parking garages were not designed for full-size SUVs. This one fits.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 slides into the tight spots, is rated 34 mpg on the highway for the run up 167 and I-5, and still puts the three-pointed star in your driveway. Power liftgate for the Costco haul, memory seats if you share it, and Apple CarPlay for the podcast that gets you through the Southcenter merge.

Most Super Duties that are ten years old have the miles to show for it. This one has 37,000.

It's a 2015 F-350 XL with the 6.2L gas V8, and it has spent more time parked than pulling. For a landscaper working out of Kent, a crew that needs a second truck, or anyone towing to job sites around the valley, this is the rig that just shows up every morning.
