Jerry asked a couple of guys in the shop - worst vehicle to buy and best vehicle to buy.

A pre-trip inspection can catch small issues before they turn into expensive breakdowns on the side of the highway.

No cold air? Don't assume your A/C just needs a recharge.

We recently had a Subaru come into the shop with an air conditioning problem. Instead of simply adding refrigerant, we used UV dye to trace the system and find the actual leak.

That's the difference between fixing the symptom and fixing the problem.

If your A/C isn't keeping up, there's a reason. It could be a leaking hose, seal, condenser, compressor, or another component. Finding the leak first helps ensure the repair is done right the first time.

That squeaking noise isn't going to fix itself.

We've had two Subarus in the shop recently where worn brake pads turned into a much bigger repair because they were driven too long.

Here's what happens:
✔️ Replace the brake pads early = lower repair cost.
❌ Wait too long = damaged rotors, more parts, more labor, and a much bigger bill.

Not every small car is a smart buy just because the price looks good.

Jerry sees enough of these smaller Chevy cars come through the shop with overheating and cooling system issues that they are not vehicles he usually recommends.

The problem with overheating is that it does not always stay a small repair.

Once a vehicle runs too hot, you can get into added parts, added labor, and sometimes engine damage. That “affordable” car can get expensive fast.

If you already own one, pay attention to the warning signs:
sudden temperature changes, coolant leaks, warning lights, strange smells, or the car running hotter than normal.

If you are thinking about buying one used, have it looked over first.

A cheap car is not cheap if it comes with expensive problems.
