These trailer bunks looked perfectly fine from the outside… but once we removed the carpet, the wood underneath was completely rotten.
The problem? Carpet holds moisture. Even pressure-treated lumber can stay wet for long periods, leading to hidden rot that you can’t see until it’s too late.
Rotten bunks can:
* Damage your boat’s hull
* Fail while loading or unloading
* Leave you stranded at the ramp with an expensive repair
If your trailer bunks are more than a few years old, it’s worth pulling back the carpet or replacing them before they become a problem.
At Carter Marine Works, we inspect and replace trailer bunks, carpet, hardware, and can help make sure your trailer is ready for the water.
A little preventative maintenance is a lot cheaper than repairing a damaged hull.
