Tech Tip Tuesday: SPC Upper Control Arms

Love them? Hate them?

Years ago, SPC upper control arms were one of the most common UCAs on the market. They became a go-to option for countless lifted trucks. Over the years, they had a few issues that gave them a mixed reputation. The latest version addresses many of those concerns and is a much better design.

Today’s tip isn’t about whether you should buy them—it’s about avoiding one of the most common installation mistakes we’ve seen.

The mistake?
Installing them upside down… or swapping the left and right arms how ever you put it we seen them come in wrong .

It sounds simple, but we’ve seen it happen more times than we’d like to admit. Experienced shops have done it. We’ve even caught ourselves double-checking before installation. That’s exactly why we’re making this video.

Taking a few extra minutes to verify orientation before tightening everything down can save you from alignment headaches and unnecessary frustration later.

Part 2: We’ll go over the common issues the older SPC arms had, what SPC changed, and the upgrades that make the current version a better option.

This Tacoma came back for another round of upgrades. 💪

It already had our intercooler and boost pipes from a previous visit. This time we added our upgraded hybrid turbo, high-flow downpipe, and custom tuning.

Now… about that 6-inch lift. We probably wouldn’t call that an upgrade. 😅 It’s just too rough for our liking. Bigger isn’t always better when it comes to ride quality. And this doesn’t scream quality 👎

With the larger tires and heavier wheels, a lot of the added power is used to offset the extra weight. But even with all that, this Tacoma is still scooting. 🚀

The custom tune brings everything together, making sure fueling and ignition timing are dialed in so it performs the way it should.

What’s next? More power? Different suspension? Gears? Stay tuned… 👀

Late nights around the shop lately. We’ve been putting in the extra hours trying to catch up on work while also helping someone we know get back on the road.

An overheating issue likely turned into a blown engine, so instead of calling it a day, we stayed after hours to tear into it and do what we could to get their truck back together.

That’s just part of what we do. Sometimes it’s about the job. Sometimes it’s about helping people.

Here’s to a few more late nights, dirty hands, and hopefully hearing that engine fire back up soon. 🔧💪
