Perfect weather for a beautiful ride along the trace!

🍁Natchez Trace Fall Color Update for September 25, 2026

The Trace is still looking very green, but the first tiny pops of yellow and red are beginning to show here and there. Unfortunately, the lack of rain in central Tennessee and northern Mississippi is slowing things down. Warm nights and dry soils in the northern and central districts of the parkway are causing delayed color change and even some early leaf drop in stressed trees.

Meanwhile, the southernmost part of the parkway may actually be leading the race this week. With drought holding back the northern and central areas, even the earliest hints of change down south are starting to stand out.

Cooler nights and any upcoming rainfall could help jumpstart the season, so be sure to check https://go.nps.gov/TraceFallColors every Friday throughout the season for the latest color updates.

The Trace is older than America. Much older. Long before there was a Declaration of Independence, this path was already worn deep by the feet of the Choctaw, Chickasaw, and Natchez peoples who traveled and traded across these lands for more than 10,000 years. Then came post riders. Boatmen walking home from New Orleans. Soldiers. Settlers. By the time America was 20, the Trace was already a national road. It carries every chapter of this country's story — including the ones told before the country existed.
