What I've seen over last 2 games (Washington and Tecumseh). They run spread, 1 back 2 slots 2 Split Ends most the time. #1 is the other SE. #13 will line up at TE and also as H. They do a strange thing where #5 lines up as Tackle, with 13 as TE... giving an unbalanced look. Wiscaver CAN throw the ball pretty good. When he has time he puts in on the target, and all four receivers seem to have good hands. They do throw deep... However, the QB is under duress most of the time...so.... He took a big hit early in 2nd half against Tecumseh and was out of that game. #13 Logston took over at QB. As for running game... there is little to none. #3 looks like a good athlete but not much success in the 2 games I saw.. The Roster does not have height nor weight on any athlete... what I found was on Maxpreps... but even there it is incomplete. Eye test shows #66 at Center is a big boy along the lines of #76.

No stats on any PC player unfortunately. This is who the Chargers put out against Washington last week. The week prior vs Tecumseh was a little different... #10 Wiscaver was a Strong Safety 2 weeks back, but at LB last week. This formation was 4-4, but they've used 3-4 and put #12 at Free Safety, #54 Harker I am willing to bet is a normal 2 way starter on OLine and LB...in both games he was in street clothes with a wrist or hand in a cast. he's also 1 of only 3 seniors on the roster. #78 Weathers is also in street clothes, and looks to be a good sized kid. You can see there are 3 freshmen out there... and sophomores.

Pike Central is 0-9. Outs-scored 476-38. They have lost 23 games in a row. Last win was Oct 4 2024 22-0 over Tell City.

I have Linton and Pike Central facing off 5 times. 3-2 Linton
1980: 25-16 Pike Central
1981: 37-12 Linton
1982: 44-0 Linton

A quick look at the Freshman Class Miner FOotball players...

#5 Quenten Colvin 6'0 140- SE/CB
#7 Camryn Ross 6'0 140- RB/OLB
#8 Braxton Moore 6'3 210- RB/TE/OLB
#13 Clark Stanton 6'1 175- WB/ILB/OLB
#18 Austin Trabant 5'9 115- QB/FS
#53 Wyatt Veatch 5'10 205- OL/ILB
#67 Hunter Jones 5'8 190- C/DL
#70 Brantley Foglesong 5'8 220 OL/DL
#77 Abram Jerrels 6'2 235 OL/DL
#79 Collin Pope 6'1 230 OL/DL/OLB

Several of these 10 freshman are already getting attention from Miner Fans. A couple earned mention from Summer workouts into the fall, a couple more have impressed on practice fields, Special Team performance, as well as JV Games... and others have found themselves thrust into the 'next man up' mentality that exists in Linton Football. The key fact here is that this is the foundation that Miner Football will continue to build on in the coming years.

Colvin has always garnered some 'oohs' and 'ahhs' with some catches in JV games, but also has 4 catches for 48 yards in Varsity games (11 targets), including a leaping catch in traffic in the Eastern Greene win. He made a great TD catch in the JV game against Northview on Monday, and has a 2 point catch in a varsity game. Quenten has already shown the ability to get open, but also make clutch catches as well as having speed to break away. I think he will be a player on both sides of the ball next year (SE/CB), in fact, I think he could run out on the field now and make noise.

Ross has 8 carries in varsity games for 23 yards, and lines up at RB in JV game as well as Outside Linebacker. He has 4 tackles in varsity games as well as .5 TFL. He has good size as well, and if he dedicates himself to offseason work to add strength I see Camryn being a contributor in 2027.

Moore is already making his presence on the field, and at 6'3 210 he doesn't look like a 9th grader. He moved into the lineup on both sides of the ball due to an injury, and hasn't left. Initially at TE, he has 6 catches for 81 yards, then in week 6 moved to RB. He certainly fits the fullback more, and has since rushed 26 times for 137 yards, and 1 TD. He averages 5.27 yards per carry. He has also been a factor at OLB with 28 tackles, 1.5 TFL, .5 sacks and 3 hurries. He had 7 stops against Lutheran. Braxton could be one of the few 4 year starters at Linton.

Stanton is another freshman getting substantial time on the field. He has been hindered by a foot injury suffered early on, if not week 1. However he has been back on the field the last couple weeks. He has 3 carries for 11 yards in varsity games at WB, but has made some solid runs in JV games. He has 10 tackles, 7 in the last 2 games at OLB. He saw quite a bit of varsity time in the Northview game. Another 6 footer, but at 175 pounds, Clark defnitely has the tools to be a factor in Miner Football in the next 3 years.

Trabant has already impressed me from watching him at QB in JV action. At only 5'9 and just 115 pounds, Austin can disappear within the big boys. The thing is, he truly has a warrior mentality of never ever giving up on a play. I was impressed in my first JV game view that he threw the ball well and wasn't afraid to try and put the ball in tough spots. By Monday's JV game I was amazed play after play watching him run all over the field shedding tacklers and avoiding pressure to unleash a total of ....54.... pass attempts! Completing 23 of these for estimated 272 yards. All of this under constant duress. He have to admire his tenacity, and he does throw a pretty ball. It’s clear he has a rapport with Colvin, and they connected 9 times for 112 yards. He has gone 5 of 23 for 62 yards in mop up varsity action, and carried 7 times as well. He is the Free Safety on D, with 4 tackles in varsity time.

There are 5 freshman who rep their time in the trenches. Wyatt Veatch has seen spot time in varsity games at Guard, and plays at ILB on defense (3 tackles in varsity play). Hunter Jones is the JV center, Brantley Foglesong is starting JV tackle. Abe Jerrels started on both sides of the ball against Vincennes when injuries took out starters..then got hurt himself. At 6’2 235 he’s another freshman that has size to become a factor. The same can be said for Collin Pope at 6’1 230. Pope has shown up in varsity games at Nose Tackle in passing downs trying to use speed rush, but I saw him at OLB in the JV game. Jerrels has 2 varsity tackles to his credit. Bottom line is that we will lose 4 senior linemen upon the end of this season, which right now is 3 of 5 starting offensive linemen, and all 3 down linemen on defense. The work these 5 freshmen linemen, along with their soph and junior teammates, put into their offseason work ethic will play big role into successes on the Roy in 2027 and beyond.

We call them freshman, but buy midyear that is no longer the case, and certainly not as we head into the opening round of Sectional play. A lot of these guys are on special team duties, and can sometimes be the difference in a result. They have to be ready at a second notice… to when you hear “wing back needed”… “Get a tackle out there”…. And they have to be ready!!!!

Go Miners!

Will run both 3 receiver sets or 2 with a Tight End and use an H back as well. Only seen a 1 back look. QB Schimmel can also run, and is 2nd on team in yards rushed. Oline all underclass except Goebel but rush for 193.38 per game, pass for 144.75. Total Offense 338.13

Raetz could be Strong Safety actually. Burkle leading tackler at 66 with 7 TFL. Co LB Brewere 2nd with 57 and 8. DE's combine for 18 TFL between Deal and Woodruff. Woodruff, just a soph, has 3 sacks to lead team. McCluskey strong at OLB with 50 tackles as well as 2 special teams TDs. Keegan Bell with 3 Ints 116.14 allowed on the ground, 149.57 in air for total 265.71. TH South and South Putnam both had over 400 in total yards.

vey good kicker in Lucas Whitman #13 48-50 on PATs

KNights have blasted opponents all year with the notable exception of South Putnam. NView averages 45.9 ppg while giving up 15. that drops to just 10.7 if you remove that 45-7 loss to the Eagles... Same with offensive points... 51.4 without SP game. They have convincing wins over 5-3 Vincennes Lincoln 49-14 in week 2, 49-7 over Sullivan (3-5) in week 3. Three lopsided wins over 4-4 teams: Owen Valley 57-12, TH South 42-28 and last weeks 47-14 over Edgewood.

Last year saw the Miners fall 35-14 to the Knights at Roy Williams in the first meeting between the football programs wince 1998. The Miners had won both games in 1997 and 1998. Before that the two schools met yearly from 1969 thru 1974, as well as couple in the 50's. To my knowledge, the Miners lost all of those other than a 0-0 Tie in 1971, and overall have met 12 times with an overall 2-9-1 record. At least in recent history.

Mark Raetz took over the program in 2013 after several years at Terre haute South. This is his 14th year at Northview, 105-37 record. The super surprise thing is Northview has never won a football sectional crown despite 14 straight winning seasons under Raetz, that includes a couple 10-1 years (2015; 2018).

As always--- Support the Miners as the close out the regular season with an eye towards the sectional ahead. You don't play games on paper....you play them on the field... and there's no way to measure heart in words on a screen!!! Seniors----time is getting short...

Go Miners!

From The Desk of Daniel Phillips

Eastern Greene: 3 -4. Under Shawn Nikirk 2nd year. 2-9 in 2025. 5-13 overall. Have played Linton every year since they started varsity football in 2003. Over all Linton has won 25 of the 26 meetings including 3 in post season. Both teams do play in Sectional 40 2A. EG is in the Southwest Conference along with ND, Clov, NK, NC. The lone EG win over Linton came in 2017 in a 35-12 TBird..which coincides with the State run that ended in a loss to Pioneer at Lucas Oil. This was the Pioneer team Linton had beaten the year before for the State Title. EG also won a sectional in 1A in 2016, Losing to The Miners in the Regional 56-7. The big win in 2017 was over Lutheran in Semi-State 12-8 in the infamous power outage game.

Former Coaches- Travis Wray 4 years as head coach, 17-24 (’18, ’22-’24). Roy Bruce-3 years 3-27 (’19-’21) and Joey Paridaen 4 years—currently with Tecumseh after time at Evansville North 37-12 ’14-’17. Hi Point obviously 14-1 in 2017 under Paridaen. Luke Dean (21-29) in 6 years 2008-2013 had gotten EG to respectable .500 ball, but Paridaen changed the environment almost immediately doing 5-5 in his first year 2014, 8-3 in 2015, then back to back sectional titles with a 10-3 ’16 and 14-1 ’17. His Defensive Coordinator took over in 2018 and the TBirds still had success at 6-4, but Wray was gone the following year. Three 1-9 seasons followed before Wray was back in 2022. After an initial 2-8 season, Wray guided the Thunderbirds to 5-5 in ’23 and 4-6 in ’24 ending his tenure as head Coach.

2025’s game was a 44-14 Miner win at Eastern. Linton jumped up 16-0 before a full 2 minutes were gone from the scoreboard. Russell Goodman scored from 11 out on the opening drive, then Paul Oliver picked off a Saxton Pennycuff pass and returned it 43 yards for another score. Oliver Stephen hauled in a Paul Oliver pass for 23 and a 24-0. Aiden Sparks ran in 2 more and senior Dalton Reed got on the board with a 10 yard run. Linton was up 44-0 at half. 2nd half was sloppy as I recall with JV, but Eastern put 14 on the board with the running clock. Zach Herndon with a 63 yard TD on a pass from Freshman Pennycutt, then with just 30 seconds remaining PEnnycuff ran in from 2 yards out. Linton was very balanced with 175 rushing and 188 passing. Oliver was 8-14 with a TD pass. Multiple Miners had rushing attempts, with Sparks leading the pack with 59 on 9 carries. Stephens had a TD on 3 catches for 68 yards, Goodman with 2-58. Tate Gamble led the defensive charge with 8 stops and 1.5 TFL, Jimmie Wright added 2 TFL and Sparks a QB Sack. Stephens, Oliver and Sparks all had picks. Tanner Scharbrough had 8 pancakes as well. Pennycuff was impressive with 13-22 for 210 passing, 1 TD, but 3 costly interceptions. EG only managed 45 yards on the ground. Herndon caught 4 for 84, and Bryson Jones 3-62. Ayden Deckard led the rushing attack with just 19 yards on 4 carries. Jones led EG on the defensive side with 10 tackles, Brown with 8.

EG opened up with 41-12 win over 0-7 Pike Central. Saxton Pennycuff threw for 231 yards and 5 TD. McNeal with 4 catches for 123 yards and 3 scores. Norris led EG with 8 tackles. Lost to North Knox 60-14 the next week. THe Warriors had 407 rushing yards, EG held to 179 total offense. Fell to 1-2 with a 39-14 loss to unbeaten North Daviess with not much to talk about for the TBirds. Came back to 2-2 with 24-12 win over 1-6 Mitchell. EG had best rushing game of season with 158 yards (Combs with 83). Pennycuff threw for 228 and 2 scores, McNeal with 95 yards receiving. Tbirds fell to 2-4 wih 16-7 loss to Eastern (Pekin) surrendering 391 rushing yards. 311 by one Mitchell back. Next up was the 39-14 loss to Cloverdale. Clovers had 484 yards of offense split 248 passing 236 rushing. One highpoint for EG was Englekinf 6 catches for 84 yards, Combs with 52 rushing. Last week was a big 48-6 win over Brown County. James at QB threw for 152 yards and 2 TDs, Combs with 86 yards rushing as EG surpassed their season high with 198 as team. Norris with 10 tackles. jacobs had a 65 yard Kickoff return TD and Deckard a 75 yard punt return TD

12 Saxton Pennycuff 10 6'2 175

This was the BC Game. #12 Pennycuff had been the starter at QB the 1st 6 games, but #15 James (a freshman) took over in 2nd half of Cloverdale game, and started last week. Pennycuff is 47-105 for 856 yards 9 TDs but 5 picks. James is 13-33 for 227, 3-1. Pennycuff is 44.7% Janes only 39.4% completion rate. Freshman Combs has been the main RB all season, leading the team in carries (57) and Yards (350) and TDs (4). Senior Deckard #6 sees a lot of action at WB with #5 Engleking (18-139-2) and #7 McNeal. #3 Kelley as well (16-57-0). EG had been a single back with 3-4 receivers and a more passing attack with Pennycuff, and still pass with James at QB, but it seems more wingback motion base and James involved in the running as well (21-108). McNeal leads with 441 yards receving on 16 catches and 7 TDs, with Engleking leading in catches with 19 and 332 yard with 4 TDs. Deckard adds 7-57, with #10 Coomer 6-61-2 and #81 White 3-48.

#56 Perkins was in street clothes vs Cloverdale but back at Tackle against BC. He, along with #77 Dixon, return from 2025 starting on the Oline. Dixon at Center and 5’10 325, with freshman Dorman at Guard 6’3 305.

77 Alex Dixon 12 5'10 325
63 Austin Easter 11 5'10 195

Again, this was from the BC game. The week before vs Cloverdale there were some differences, but I’ll go with this one. #50 Norris returns at ILB from ’25 and leads in tackles with 41 . #6 Deckard is at strong safety moving from LB last year, and had 39 stops. #10 Coomer is also a starter from 2025. But that’s all that returns. #3 Kelley joins Norris as well as #9 Engleking and #18 Fry at the LB corp. Engleking- (there are 2 of them.. Eli #5 is a junior, Gage #9 a sophomore) had 33 tackles and a team leading 9 TFL. #7 McNeal had 22 tackles, 5 TFL and 3 sacks. In the Cloverdale game, and I assume most of the season #77 Dixon was at NG, and had 11 tackles for the year, but also #63 Easter has good numbers with 34 tackles 9 TFL and 2 Sacks. Last week Dixon was strictly offense at Center, and Easter was on sidelines (fully dressed out ). I see a freshman ( #75 Buskirk) was on Dline last week (6 tkls in season), so not sure what we’ll see tonight.

30 Ryder Crane 11 5'10 150
Ryder is the place kicker… is 17-21 in PATs with a 38.5 kickoff average. I’ve seen both Pennycuff and McNeal punt for the TBirds.
