Cracked Cowl Panel on a Discovery 5. Full Replacement Part 2 πŸ”§
The cowl panel between the hood and windshield takes a beating from sun, ice scrapers, and pressure washers, and once it cracks it stops keeping water and debris away from the wiper linkage and cabin air intake. In Part 2 Justin pops the hood and gets into the teardown, pulling the trim and seal along the back of the engine bay and showing the clips that hold it all down. Those clips are the part that catches people, so take your time here. Same job carries over to the L405 Range Rover and L494 Sport. Do you reuse the old clips or replace every one of them while you are in there?

Cracked Cowl Panel on a Discovery 5. Full Replacement Part 1 πŸ”§
The cowl panel between the hood and windshield takes a beating from sun, ice scrapers, and pressure washers, and once it cracks it stops keeping water and debris away from the wiper linkage and cabin air intake. Justin is swapping in a new Genuine panel on this Discovery 5, and in Part 1 he walks through the new part, gets the Rover prepped, and starts working the old panel loose. Same job carries over to the L405 Range Rover and L494 Sport. Is your cowl still original, or has it already cracked and faded on you?

How fast can onboard air fill a giant balloon? 🎈

We put Project Octa's ARB setup to the test. 61 seconds from flat to full.

It looks like a party trick, but the reason it matters is simple. Air down for the trail, air back up before you hit the pavement, and not spend half an hour doing it.

What are you running for onboard air, and would you change it?

That Humming Noise on Your LR3? It's the Hub. Part 8 πŸ”§
A humming or growling noise that changes when you turn is almost always a wheel bearing, and on the LR3 the bearing comes built into the hub assembly, so the whole unit gets swapped. With the new hub bolted in, Part 8 is the trip back. Justin slides the rotor back over the studs, gets the caliper back in place, and takes a close look at the center of the hub before anything else goes on. Little checks like this are what keep you from doing the job twice. What is the one thing you always double check before the wheel goes back on your Rover?

The seller bought it in July 2026

πŸ—£οΈ FROM THE COMMENTS
Bidders asked about maintenance records and oil leaks. The seller says no leaks are visible and that it was maintained by a Rover mechanic and then a Land Rover dealership owner, using Land Rover parts for plugs, wires and fluids.

The painted frame and axles got questions too. The seller says they were told a protective coating was applied to prevent rust.

On the 2009 front damage, the seller says it was likely minor since the front has its original parts.

One commenter flagged head gaskets as the main thing to watch on the 4.6.

The decal livery drew the most debate. Commenters compared it to other G4s, with one noting most wore the blue stripe and smaller G4 decals, some only had the small fender badges, and the bigger decals represent the event vehicles. The seller says these are the same decals used on the G4 Challenge competition vehicles.

Another commenter asked about the missing front seat armrests, and that question has not been answered in the thread.

πŸ’¬ G4 owners, what did yours look like from the factory? Stripe, big event decals, or just the fender badges?

That Humming Noise on Your LR3? It's the Hub. Part 7 πŸ”§
A humming or growling noise that changes when you turn is almost always a wheel bearing, and on the LR3 the bearing comes built into the hub assembly, so the whole unit gets swapped. The new hub is seated in the knuckle, and in Part 7 Justin gets in behind it and bolts it up tight. Fresh hub, clean knuckle, and the old growl is about to be gone. Do you torque your hub bolts to spec every time, or go by feel?

That Humming Noise on Your LR3? It's the Hub. Part 6 πŸ”§
A humming or growling noise that changes when you turn is almost always a wheel bearing, and on the LR3 the bearing comes built into the hub assembly, so the whole unit gets swapped. The old hub is finally out. In Part 6 Justin cleans up the knuckle so the new hub has a good surface to sit on, then brings in the new assembly with the bearing already installed and sets it into place. Skip the cleanup and you can be chasing problems later. How much time do you spend cleaning the knuckle before a new hub goes in?

⚠️ Watch Outs
Carfax shows damage reported in January 2018
Mixed tires on the 18 inch wheels
Slight headliner sag at the very rear, per the seller
Haldex fluid history is unconfirmed. The seller believes it was done under previous ownership

πŸ—£οΈ From the Comments
Most of the conversation centered on the drivetrain and rust. A bidder asked about rear diff noise and whether the Haldex unit has had a fluid change. The seller reported no diff noise, pointed to the driving video, and said he believes the Haldex fluid was changed under previous ownership. That same bidder asked for underbody photos and shots inside the rear wheel arches behind the doors, and the seller posted them. Tires and the headliner also came up, with the seller saying the tires have plenty of life left and noting a slight sag at the very rear of the headliner.

πŸ’¬ LR2 owners, what is the first thing you check on one of these? And would you daily one?
