Boomtastic Racing In 1984, Pontiac created the Fiero. Since 1987, we've been perfecting it. www.boomtastic.com Our first Fiero - a white 1984 2M4 - was an engineering nightmare.

We started working with the Pontiac Fiero in 1987 out of sheer necessity. Bought from a Mazda dealer, they didn't understand how to service the vehicle so they sent us to the local Pontiac dealer who, in short, hated the cars. It had many problems, and as we quickly found out no technicians anywhere would work on it. We honed our skills on that car, and soon crafted a reputation locally for qualit

y work. Suddenly thanks to word of mouth and a great relationship forged with that local Pontiac dealer, Fiero owners came out of the wood work and our business began. By the time we were contacted, most Fiero owners were so disgusted with their cars and the lack of service that they wanted to sell them, and as such we bought (and sold) a LOT of Fieros in the early years. We stopped counting when the 100th Fiero passed through our hands. We kept an inventory of owners looking to sell and looking to buy, so we could always find the right car for the right person. We were the first to offer Fiero owners across the US and Canada with Kevlar brake pads, becoming the exclusive importer/exporter for this brand. Times changed, and so did our focus. We had always leaned towards the racing side of life, and knew that eventually we'd end up there full time. Now the repair business is almost non-existent and instead we focus more on high-performance items, from custom R&D to drag racing our insane pro street GT. Over the years we have been quite active with the Fiero community. We helped start the New England Fiero Association (NEFA) and the now defunct Classic Fiero Owner's Group, International (CFOGi). Our current responsibilties include managing the Fiero Groups IO List. We're also quite active on several Facebook Fiero groups. We also maintain an extensive collection of rare and unusual Fiero memorabilia, which will one day make it's way online. One thing's for sure - we've never lost our passion for America's only mid-engine vehicle. Boomtastic Racing. Taking life, 1/4 mile at a time ...

The 100th Anniversary Event is over, and we're back home safely. Unfortunately Greta didn't win in Michigan, but we don't chase trophies. We met many great people up there, hung out with the best of friends and created new memories. We showed our love for the Pontiac Fiero and shared stories with many that helped create the car - either by working on the project itself, the assembly line, or even in management. Trophies validate the hard work, and we're humbled to be acknowledged, but gaining knowledge and respect is far more valuable.

After a 10hr trip over from Pennsylvania, we finally got to Michigan. With no trailer parking being allowed at the host hotel, we had to bring everything out to the trailer area and park there (about 7 miles away from the host hotel, but literally right next to where the show is being held). Communication at this event has been EXTREMELY poor to say the least, with multiple different answer on even the smallest of questions. For instance, every car has to go through tech inspection - which includes inspecting what? No one knows. Some said there was no inspection, some said that since Greta was streel legal she'd need to have lights and horns checked, etc. With no idea what to expect or even if we had to tech inspect, we ordered a bunch of parts, shopped the local auto stores for other parts, and got to working on her as soon as we could to figure out why she got hot in PA. We spent yesterday morning testing and retesting components - all of which tested fine. We checked wiring, which again tested fine. We worked for a bit and finally determined that the Jeg's fan switch harness had an internally corroded ground cable that was giving an intermittent connection. We bypassed that and got the fan operational, then made our way over to tech inspection.

At tech inspection, we had to first get into the staging lines - a feat compounded by first having to go over a large curb and then we were told to leave no tire marks inside. We inched in over the curb and pulled up to the judges staring in awe. They had concerns about Greta being in the "Fiero" class, which literally included ALL Fieros. Traffic backed up as people gawked and whispered about reclassification. Finally the judges decided that the Fiero class was fine and sent her over to get her picture taken for an upcoming "Smoke Signals" magazine article that discusses the entire event. Don't run right out and buy a copy as I'm sure it will be a postage size stamp of an image. Photos take, Greta fired up and left in her traditional way. They said no tire marks INSIDE, but said nothing about OUTSIDE.

Greta took 3rd place in her class at the GM Nationals, and "Best Non-Stock" in the MAFOA Fieros at Carlisle. Oh, she also picked up "Best In Show" too!!

Unfortunately it was a tough win for her and I. She killed the radiator fan and got very hot in the parade, and I forgot sunblock.

As Carlisle winds down, we'd like to share this unique moment when the old pro street "met" the new pro street. The silver 86 was owned by us for over 30 years, but had to be passed along to make some garage space for Greta. The two never shared any close proximity, with each having to be moved around to make room for the other. It's great to see the silver Fiero is getting renewed attention from it's current owner!
