Lubbock Businesses Team Up to Fill Backpacks and Give Local Students a Stronger Start This School Year

Several Lubbock businesses are joining forces to help local students head back to class with the supplies they need through the Afterglow Detail Service Back to School Haul, a community wide school supply drive that will conclude with a giveaway for families ahead of the new school year.

Organizers are collecting donations of backpacks, notebooks, school supplies, pens, pencils, crayons, markers, folders, glue, scissors and other classroom essentials. The drive began July 20 and will continue through Friday, July 31, with the community giveaway scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1.

To encourage donations, organizers are also holding a raffle featuring more than $700 in prizes. Every donation made earns one raffle ticket for a chance to win one of four prizes donated by participating local businesses.

The grand prize includes a $400 interior and exterior vehicle detail from Afterglow Detail Service. Additional prizes include $100 worth of sports and 90s merchandise from KYE The Card Guy, a $100 custom back to school banner from Signs by Shela and a $100 Sweet Dunk’s treat box.

The school supply drive is being supported by several local businesses, including Afterglow Detail Service, KYE The Card Guy, Signs by Shela, Saddle Up Freshies, Sweet Dunk’s with Gg and other community partners working together to make sure children in need begin the school year with the tools they need to succeed.

Donations can be dropped off at 3520 Woodrow Road, Suite 152. Organizers say every contribution, no matter the size, helps make a difference for local students and families as the first day of school approaches.

Residents who would like to support the effort are encouraged to donate school supplies before the July 31 deadline or participate in the raffle while helping invest in the next generation of Lubbock students.
