🌞 Protect Your Windshield from Heat Damage This Summer 🚗
Extreme heat can do more than make your car uncomfortable. It can put your windshield at risk too! High temperatures cause glass to expand, and existing chips or cracks can quickly spread into costly damage.
Here are a few simple tips to keep your windshield protected:
✅ Park in the Shade whenever possible to reduce direct heat exposure.
✅ Avoid Sudden Temperature Changes – Blasting cold air on a scorching windshield can cause cracks to worsen.
✅ Repair Chips Early – Small chips can expand rapidly in hot weather. Fix them before they become major cracks.
✅ Avoid Using a Sunshade - Crack windows instead, a sunshade can increase the surface temperature of a windshield by 10-20 degrees and cause damage to get even larger.
✅ Keep Your Windshield Clean – Dirt and debris can weaken the glass over time, especially when combined with heat.
A little prevention can save you from expensive windshield replacements and keep you safer on the road.

Ice storms can do serious damage to your windshield (and other glass) if you’re not careful. ❄️🚗
Here’s how to protect your auto glass:

• Park in a garage or under cover whenever possible
• If possible, avoid parking under trees or limbs that could come down under the weight of ice.
• Lift your wipers when you park your car so they don’t freeze to the glass if it is actively raining (Freezing), sleeting or snowing.
• NEVER pour hot water on an icy or frozen windshield
• Turn on your defroster to low and increase the heat gradually
• Scrape ice gently—avoid metal tools (This can lead to bad scratches)
• Fix small chips early before ice turns them into cracks

A little prevention and planning now can save you a full windshield replacement later.

We hope everyone is preparing for the winter storm and ice headed our way!

The photo below shows a product called Magna Chloride. (Some states may also use Sodium Chloride or Calcium Chloride )which is commonly used on roadways to prevent ice from bonding to the pavement. In Georgia, we call it “Brine”, and it is applied by “Brine Trucks” (see the second photo). It also makes plowing more effective by adding grit to the wintry mix that does fall.

If your windshield has chips or cracks, those damaged areas create open cavities. Magna Chloride, Sodium Chloride, and Calcium Chloride can seep into these cavities and begin breaking down the PVB layer of the windshield, softening it and making it more vulnerable to ultraviolet damage.

In addition, this chemical can interfere with the polymers in our repair resins, meaning extra cleaning and preparation are required when performing a repair on a contaminated windshield.

To help protect unrepaired chips, we recommend placing a small piece of clear box tape over each chip and then contacting us as soon as possible to schedule a repair.

It is the time of year for mornings like today with heavy frost on your windshield. Instead of "Scraping" the frost away and risking scratching your windshield, take a mixture of 3 parts 90 isopropyl alcohol and 1 part water and mist it onto your windshield with the wipers running on low. The frost will melt immediately and the wipers will immediately wipe off the mixture from windshield and you are good to go!
