It's a beautiful time of the year for a scenic road trip of leaf peeping! However, those stunning fallen leaves can be treacherous!

When wet leaves pile up on the road, they create a slick surface that drastically reduces your traction. It's almost like driving on ice, making it much harder to brake or steer, especially when navigating curves.

Lucky Brake Driving's Safety Tips:

🛑 Slow Down: Reduce your speed significantly when you see a thick blanket of wet leaves.

📏 Increase Following Distance: Give yourself extra room between your car and the one ahead.

🦶 Brake Gently: Avoid sudden or aggressive braking, which can easily lead to a skid.

🔄 Steer Smoothly: Make slow, deliberate, and gentle turns.

Enjoy the beautiful fall colors, but remember to stay safe and drive carefully!

New laws go in effect for Virginia Residents on July 1st.

Here are three driving related changes: (see full article attached)

•Expanded Seatbelt Law: Children under eight must be fastened in a car seat in the back seat. Adults in the backseat must now wear seatbelts. (HB 2475)

•Pedestrian Safety: If a driver fails to stop for a pedestrian, it is a traffic infraction. If the collision results in a serious body injury or death, it is a class one misdemeanor. (SB 1416)

•DMV Requirements For Special Needs Residents: The DMV will be required to disclose non-visible disabilities on a driver's license when requested by the driver. (HB2116)

Multiple new laws will be taking effect in Virginia on July 1.

Please be courteous as we mow this season. It is not only hazardous but also illegal to blow your grass into the roadway.

Know when you mow . . . Blowing lawn clippings onto the street isn’t just messy AND dangerous, but against the law! Face the blades to keep clippings on your property and help us keep Marion clean and safe!


§ 18.2-324. Throwing or depositing certain substances upon highway; removal of such substances.

No person shall throw or deposit or cause to be deposited upon any highway any glass bottle, glass, nail, tack, wire, can, or any other substance likely to injure any person or animal, or damage any vehicle upon such highway, nor shall any person throw or deposit or cause to be deposited upon any highway any soil, sand, mud, gravel or other substances so as to create a hazard to the traveling public. Any person who drops, or permits to be dropped or thrown, upon any highway any destructive, hazardous or injurious material shall immediately remove the same or cause it to be removed. Any person removing a wrecked or damaged vehicle from a highway shall remove any glass or other injurious substance dropped upon the highway from such vehicle. Any persons violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.
