I want to give some people in our community their flowers.

Sunday, our Huffines Hyundai McKinney team had the opportunity to help at The Community Food Pantry of McKinney as they prepared for another week of serving our neighbors.

We were there for a few hours.

They're doing the work week after week.

Providing food and essential items. Helping families. Serving people with dignity. Doing work that many of us probably never see.

Those are the people this post is about.

And here's the best part: we can help them.

Here's a question I've been thinking about.

If customers are willing to pay someone else to help them navigate buying a car, what created the demand for that service in the first place?

I don't think the most useful response from our industry is to get offended by it.

I think there's something we can learn from it.

And that conversation gets bigger than advocates pretty quickly.

I've noticed that sometimes customers seem almost hesitant to ask certain questions or really dig into a vehicle.
Maybe they don't want to be difficult.
Please be difficult. 😂
Okay, maybe not difficult.
But ask questions. Do your homework. Make sure you understand what you're considering before you make the decision.
I'd much rather have someone make an informed decision than drive home wondering whether they missed something.
Because my job isn't to convince you this is the right car.
It's to give you enough information to decide whether it is.

I spend a lot of time talking about what I believe the car-buying experience should feel like.
Sometimes it's better to let a customer tell you what it actually felt like.
After Julie and Mike bought their Santa Fe, I asked Julie one question:
“What was different about this purchase?”
Her answer meant a lot to me.
Thank you both for trusting me and for letting me share this. And Julie, I'm not sure I've ever had a customer make me blush quite this much. 😂
Enjoy that beautiful Santa Fe. I'm grateful our paths crossed.

More people are turning to auto advocates.
I don't think it's because they don't know how to buy a car.
I think it's about the experience they're trying to avoid.
So I'm curious:

What an incredible night. Wilson Jr. is one of my all time favorites. I bought a ticket at 5:00pm and drove across town. I found Stephen around the time that my dad died. He wrote an album about losing his dad and it’s out of this world. He performed two hour show and then hung out after. He came over and took pictures, signed things. I got a few minutes to say how much his music meant to me and how amazing and talented he was and how amazing it is that he is humble and kind. This was the best night ever. His music is the best. You owe it to yourself to listen to his music and see him live. He sounds even better live. Ironically I bought a ticket from a father who was their with his 10 year old son. The irony wasn’t lost. Thank you for an extraordinary night. I am my fathers son!

Every sales manager has the same advice when a customer goes quiet: follow up more.

I don't think more is the answer. I think something more basic is missing before the follow-up even happens.

Curious if this resonates with anyone else in sales.

Someone recently asked me a question I've been thinking about ever since. Can caring actually be a competitive advantage in sales?

My first instinct was no. Caring shouldn't be a strategy, you should just care because there's a human being sitting across from you making a major financial decision.

But I don't think caring is a tactic. I think it's something that changes your behavior in specific ways, the questions you ask, the calls you make after the sale, the things you're willing to say even when they don't benefit you.

Customers can research horsepower, features, inventory, prices, and reviews before I ever know their name. So if information isn't my value anymore, what is?
