The invention of the first tow truck 🚛 is credited to Ernest Holmes Sr. after helping his friend retrieve a Model T from the ditch, he came up with the idea of modifying a 1916 Cadillac where he affixed poles, a pulley and chains.
 
He quickly patented his design, and thus, out of a need, began the towing industry.
