Built by , the Model J was powered by a magnificent 420-cubic-inch straight-eight featuring dual overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. With around 265 horsepower, it was extraordinarily powerful for its era and capable of speeds approaching 120 mph, depending on the bodywork and gearing.

The Sedan body added a more formal and practical character to Duesenberg’s flagship chassis while retaining the imposing proportions, exceptional craftsmanship, and unmistakable presence that made the Model J famous. Owners could select from a variety of custom bodies created by America’s finest coachbuilders, making each car highly individual.

1930 Cadillac Series 452 V-16

The 1930 Cadillac Series 452 V-16 was one of the most ambitious American luxury cars ever created. Introduced at the beginning of the Great Depression, it arrived with an extraordinary combination of power, engineering, and craftsmanship.

At its heart was a 452-cubic-inch, 7.4-liter V-16 producing around 175 horsepower. The engine was remarkably smooth and sophisticated, using overhead valves and a compact design that allowed Cadillac to deliver exceptional refinement.

The styling was equally imposing. A long hood, sweeping fenders, tall radiator grille, and beautifully proportioned coachwork gave the V-16 an unmistakable presence. Customers could choose from numerous body styles, with Fleetwood and other coachbuilders creating highly distinctive examples.

The Series 452 represented Cadillac's answer to the world's finest luxury automobiles, competing in an exclusive market alongside marques such as Rolls-Royce and Isotta Fraschini.

Today, the 1930 Cadillac V-16 remains one of the defining symbols of America's golden age of automotive engineering—a machine where size, sophistication, and craftsmanship came together on an extraordinary scale.

1932 Röhr 8 Typ F Stromlinie Limousine

The 1932 Röhr 8 Typ F Stromlinie Limousine was an extraordinary example of German automotive design at a time when streamlined styling was still considered revolutionary.

Built by the German manufacturer Röhr, the Typ F featured an advanced 2.0-liter inline-eight engine mounted at the front and driving the rear wheels. Its sophisticated engineering was matched by a remarkably aerodynamic body, with flowing lines and carefully integrated fenders that gave the car a futuristic appearance for the early 1930s.

The Stromlinie name—meaning “streamline”—perfectly described its design philosophy. Instead of the upright, boxy shapes common to many cars of the period, the Röhr embraced smoother contours designed to reduce aerodynamic resistance while creating a distinctive visual identity.

Rare, technically ambitious and unmistakably ahead of its time, the Röhr 8 Typ F Stromlinie is a fascinating reminder that automotive experimentation was already pushing toward the streamlined future in the early 1930s.

1932 Bucciali TAV 12 “La Flèche d’Or” — The Golden Arrow

Imagine a luxury automobile stretching more than six metres, powered by a V12 engine and driven through its front wheels at a time when such engineering was almost unthinkable. The Bucciali TAV 12 was one of the most daring automotive creations of the early 1930s.

Built by the French brothers Angelo and Paul-Albert Bucciali, this extraordinary machine represented a radical departure from conventional luxury-car design. Its 4.9-litre Voisin V12 engine and front-wheel-drive layout gave it a distinctive engineering identity, while its exceptionally long, low silhouette challenged the proportions of traditional grand automobiles.

The four-door limousine became known as La Flèche d’Or, French for “The Golden Arrow.” Its dramatic bodywork was created by the celebrated coachbuilder Saoutchik, featuring enormous wheels, sweeping fenders and a remarkably low roofline. Measuring approximately 6.36 metres long and just 1.48 metres high, it possessed proportions that still look astonishing today.

The TAV 12 was more than a styling experiment. Front-wheel drive eliminated the conventional propeller shaft running beneath the passenger compartment, helping make its unusually low profile possible. At a time when most prestigious cars followed established engineering traditions, Bucciali pursued a very different vision of automotive luxury.

Its story is equally remarkable. The TAV 12 was a unique automobile, built for a private client, Georges Roure. After the original car was dismantled and its body separated from the chassis, the surviving components were eventually reunited by a collector. The painstaking reconstruction restored one of the most extraordinary creations of the French coachbuilding era.

Although Bucciali never became a household name like Bugatti or Rolls-Royce, the TAV 12 remains a powerful reminder that some of motoring history’s boldest innovations came from manufacturers working outside the mainstream.

The question is: Was the Bucciali TAV 12 ahead of its time, or is it one of the most extravagant automotive designs ever created?

1932 Auburn 12-160A Boattail Speedster — American Art Deco at Its Finest

Few cars captured the glamour of the early 1930s like the Auburn 12-160A Boattail Speedster. With its dramatic tapered rear, sweeping fenders and unmistakable road presence, this machine transformed motoring into a statement of luxury and performance.

Under the hood, Auburn’s magnificent V12 engine delivered smooth, effortless power, while the long bonnet and low-slung profile gave the Speedster an unmistakably sporting character. Its boat-tail bodywork reflected the era’s fascination with streamlined design, making it one of the most visually striking American automobiles of its time.

Today, Auburn Speedsters remain celebrated symbols of the marque’s ambition during the Great Depression—a period when Auburn dared to build cars that looked every bit as extraordinary as they drove.

What’s your experience with Auburns? Could any other American classic match this boat-tail beauty?

1931 Duesenberg Model J Convertible Sedan

The American Standard of Automotive Excellence

Few automobiles embody the glamour of the 1930s like the Duesenberg Model J. Built for the wealthiest and most influential clients of its time, it represented the pinnacle of American luxury, engineering and bespoke craftsmanship.

Under its long bonnet sat a 420-cubic-inch (6.9-litre) straight-eight engine producing 265 horsepower — extraordinary output for its era. With advanced engineering and commanding performance, the Model J could rival the finest luxury cars in the world.

The Convertible Sedan body style added another layer of distinction, combining formal elegance with the freedom of open-air motoring. Its imposing proportions, sweeping fenders and meticulously finished details made it a rolling statement of prestige.

Introduced in 1928, the Model J became an enduring symbol of the Jazz Age, attracting wealthy industrialists, celebrities and royalty. Today, it remains one of the most celebrated names in pre-war motoring.

Duesenberg built cars for those who accepted nothing but the best. Could any American marque match its prestige in the 1930s?
