What's the point if you own a profilometer if you don't know how to use it properly? Different surfaces require different finishes and how you evaluate them change. Good thing we have Digital Metrology's TraceBoss and direct access to the both Mark Malburg and Lake Speed Jr. - a winning team!

If someone other than LN is reconditioning or honing your Porsche cylinders or engine blocks, trust but verify.

There is no magic molecule in a bottle that can permanently bond to every engine surface, reverse wear, or rebuild damaged parts.

Oil additives can change friction, detergency, viscosity, or anti-wear behavior. Some may even make an engine sound quieter for a while. But if bearings are worn, cylinders are scored, rings are damaged, or surfaces are already failing, no pour-in product is going to restore the original geometry.

If you believe an additive can do this, I have oceanfront property for sale in Arizona. As Lake Speed Jr. says, it's Science, Not Speculation.

Oil can help protect an engine. It cannot rebuild one.

Don't immediately think the worse. An engine out service is the most cost effective way to service your Boxster, Cayman, or 911, especially when doing comprehensive maintenance including doing a water pump, IMS, AOS, and other work at one time.

But if your Porsche does need an engine rebuild, Euroquipe is one of our Certified Installers who also has taken our Hands On rebuild classes (and Tony's classes too) and has since gotten a ton of these rebuilds (and other Porsche engine) under their belt.

Billet is better. No castings here. We start with extrusions.with optimized grain structure. Then it's heat treated including tempering, stress relieving, and aging. Then every critical detail and surface is precision machined.

Might not look like there is much going on here, but deburring is a critical step. If any of you have handled modern engine blocks and components, your hands surely have scars from all the cuts you've received from razor blade sharp edges that aren't deburred.

Well, what do we have here. The "Orange Can" Issue. We say this on a very expensive, nearly million dollar aircooled Porsche 911. Needless to say, there are better choices. Although Napa Gold filters are no longer our go to as they aren't made by Wix, good news is that Wix is still making great filters here in the USA. That's what we recommend.

If my Porsche originally called for an A40 oil, say a 0w40 or 5w40, when is it appropriate to use a thicker oil? There seems to be some confusion online that our recommendations have changed.

Not true. We still recommend Driven DT40 as a replacement for A40 oils for street use.

However, for track use where oil temps are elevated, or your engine has bore scoring, then and only then are we recommending DI50.

Always fun to play with dry ice. Now where's the punch bowl?

All kidding aside, different materials expand at different rates. Measuring parts cold, at room temp, and at various temperatures up to 350F (hotter than we typically measure on an air-cooled cylinder) gives us insights to what clearances we need to run with a certain piston based on how the engine will be used.

Usually 5-chain Boxster (97-02) and 996 (99-01) models will need this every 60-80k miles, but sometimes sooner, depending on how the car is driven and maintained.

Shockingly, the engine will run and keep running, but you're spreading metal through the engine and the chain will eventually failure.

MPC is one of our IMS Solution Certified Installers. As part of pre-qualification, they have to check cam timing deviation to make sure your engine won't suffer a failure like this.

Where some shops will put blinders on put an IMS bearing replacement on an engine and still ignore all the other problems with the car, our installers can't.

If you've ever had to replace your 996 or 997 sump plate because it has cracked because you bottomed out? The factory sump is cast (and thin). It's mass production at its finest. Just strong enough.

Well, we believe in overkill. Billet aluminum construction delivers added strength and some extra oil volume to boot.
