The primary causes for this dusty buildup include:

Material Wear: When you press the brake pedal, the brake pads clamp onto the spinning metal rotors to stop the car. This intense friction shears microscopic particles of iron (from the rotor) and the pad's binding material (like ceramic, metallic, or organic compounds) into a dark powder.
Braking Distribution: The front wheels handle roughly 70% to 80% of your vehicle's stopping power. Because they are larger and work harder, your front rims will almost always accumulate significantly more dust than the rear ones.
Aggressive Driving: Frequent, hard, and sudden stops generate more heat and friction, which accelerates the wear on your pads and rotors and produces more dust.
Brake Pad Compound: The type of brake pads on your car matters. Semi-metallic brake pads provide excellent stopping power but are notorious for shedding heavy, dark, and sticky dust. Ceramic brake pads produce less visible dust but often come with a higher price tag.

An "iron on car" process almost always refers to an iron remover or iron decontaminant spray.
