A little bit of 1990s BMW history, finished in a color that makes it nearly impossible to ignore 💛
The BMW Z3 made its debut in 1995 and marked an important chapter for the German manufacturer. It was the first BMW model produced exclusively outside Germany, with production taking place at BMW’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The Z3 also became an almost immediate pop culture icon. Before most people had even seen one on the road, a blue Z3 appeared alongside Pierce Brosnan in the 1995 James Bond film "GoldenEye"
Underneath the styling was a classic sports car formula. Engine up front, power sent to the rear wheels and two seats in the middle. Over its production run the Z3 was offered with everything from modest four-cylinder engines to BMW’s legendary inline-six. The lineup eventually gave us the much more serious Z3 M Roadster and M Coupe.
Its design has aged remarkably well. The long hood, short rear deck, side gills and compact proportions were inspired by classic European roadsters while still being unmistakably BMW.
Production continued through 2002 before the Z4 took its place.
And in yellow?
It feels especially appropriate for a sports car born in the 1990s. Bright, simple and just a little bit playful.
More than 25 years later, the Z3 has gone from a relatively common little BMW roadster to a genuine modern classic 🏁
