The Nantucket Land Council is pleased to present its 7th Annual State of the Harbor Forum. This year we look forward to welcoming Dr. Alyssa Novak, Assistant Research Professor of Boston University, to present on The Impacts of Nutrient Enriched Waters and Sea-Surface Temperatures on the Eelgrass Populations of Nantucket Island.

In 2018 and 2020, the Nantucket Land Council worked with Dr. Novak to assess the health of eelgrass meadows located at multiple sites in Nantucket and Madaket harbors. Dr. Novak collected information on various eelgrass plant parameters and assessed their sources of nitrogen through stable isotope analysis. The presentation will feature a discussion of her results, their implications, and how we can work towards restoring eelgrass populations in the waters of Nantucket.
