Big jets leave invisible tornadoes 🌪️✈️

Big jets leave invisible tornadoes behind them. Air curls around each wingtip into two spinning vortices that sink below the jet's flight path and drift with the wind.
They're strongest when the jet is heavy, clean (gear and flaps up) and slow, like right after takeoff or before landing.
How to avoid them: stay above the jet's path, and land beyond the point where it touched down.
Fly smart with Naples Air Center.

Meet Jacob, our Instructor of the Week 👨‍✈️ It all started with one discovery flight. Today his favorite part of the job is the smile on a student's face after their first solo. Congrats, Jacob!

Mayday or Pan-Pan? Pick the right one 🚨✈️

Two emergency words every pilot knows:
PAN-PAN (said 3 times) = urgent, but not life-threatening yet: lost, a sick passenger, a rough-running engine.
MAYDAY (said 3 times) = grave and imminent danger. A Mayday call has priority over every other transmission on the frequency.
Can't reach anyone on the radio? Squawk 7700 on your transponder and every radar screen sees you're in an emergency.
Train for every scenario at Naples Air Center.

Why pilots cut your shirt after your first solo ✂️✈️

The day your instructor gets out of the plane. When you're ready, your CFI endorses your logbook for solo flight, then it's just you, flying a few laps of the traffic pattern.
After landing comes the tradition: your shirt tail gets cut off, signed and dated. Legend says it goes back to tandem trainers, when instructors sat behind the student and tugged on the shirt to get their attention. No more tugging needed: you're flying on your own.
Your first solo could happen at Naples Air Center.

Why planes hate hot days 🔥✈️

Same plane, same runway, but on a hot day it needs more room. Hot air is thinner: fewer air molecules means less lift from the wings, less power from the engine and less thrust from the prop. Result: a longer takeoff roll and a slower climb.
Pilots call it density altitude. On a 35 °C day at a sea-level airport, your plane performs as if the runway were about 2,400 ft higher.
We train in Florida heat every day at Naples Air Center, so you learn to plan for it.

How your engine makes ICE on a 34 °C day 🥵🧊

Yes, an engine can make ice on a hot, humid Florida day. In a carbureted engine, air speeds up through the narrow venturi and the fuel evaporates; both cool the air enough to freeze its moisture. Ice chokes the airflow and the engine loses power.
The fix is carb heat: RPM dips for a moment while the ice melts, then recovers. The FAA notes carb icing is possible from well below freezing to over 90 °F with high humidity.
Small details, big safety. Naples Air Center.

The final boss of flight school 🏆

Every pilot certificate ends with the checkride: you pass the FAA written knowledge test, then an oral exam with an FAA examiner, then a flight test to show you meet the Airman Certification Standards. Pass, and you leave with a temporary certificate the same day.
Our CFIs prepare you for every step at Naples Air Center.

The sky has invisible walls. Here's the map 🗺️

The sky over Florida is divided into invisible blocks of airspace:
Class A above 18,000 ft · Class B around the busiest airports like Miami (shaped like an upside-down wedding cake) · Class C around busy airports like Fort Myers · Class D around towered airports like Naples · Class E and G everywhere else.
Our students learn to fly through all of it, right from Naples (KAPF).
