Halloween will also have a strong connection with the Lincoln Highway since the historic road was officially dedicated across the country on Halloween in 1913.

In the early 20th century, Halloween was a day of celebration for adults and not as much the children's trick or treat festivities that we enjoy today.

Take a road trip this Halloween and celebrate the establishment of the Lincoln Highway. 🐈‍⬛🎃👻

Did you know that the Lincoln Highway was officially launched on Halloween in 1913?

Gettysburg along with other Lincoln Highway communities joined in on the celebration.

What better way to celebrate than a parade of automobiles? 🛺

America’s first true look at the Statue of Liberty was in Philadelphia.

in 1886, the Statue of Liberty was dedicated by Grover Cleveland with a ticker tape parade in New York City.

France was responsible for creating the Statue and assembling it in the US while the American people would fund and build the pedestal. One of the ways money was raised was at the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia.

While the statue was under construction in Paris, it’s 42-foot copper arm jutted out of a nondescript white tent and into the sky in Philadelphia. The sculpture’s gargantuan hand held aloft a torch large enough for multiple people to comfortably stand along its base. For a small additional fee, visitors to the fair could climb a ladder to take in the view of the exposition from the torch themselves.

As communities along the Lincoln Highway host Halloween celebrations across Pennsylvania, we're encourage to see the number of people headed to our historic amusement parks as part of their celebrations. Both Dutch Wonderland near Lancaster and Idlewild & SoakZone in Ligonier are hosting fun, family friendly events. The milder than usual October weather has been a treat for everyone to enjoy.

Check out vintage postcards for costume ideas. Would you rather be a nursery rhyme character or an astronaut this year?

Consider that at the time of the revolution that it took 11 days to travel from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh along the road that became the Lincoln Highway.

If you are in SWPA, take time to visit the Wh***ey Rebellion Education Center in Washington, PA along the National Road. As we remember America250PA, consider that our nation has always debated the role of the government.
