A driver recently failed a state vehicle inspection due to alleged brake pad wear. The inspection station claimed the brake pads were below the legal minimum thickness of 1/16 inch, but after examining them personally, the driver believes the pads clearly have significantly more material remaining than that.
This is not the first time the driver has encountered a situation like this. A similar experience occurred about 15 years ago at a dealership, and this time it happened at Firestone. The situation is particularly frustrating because many customers would simply approve the repair in order to get their vehicle back on the road.
The shop provided an estimate of approximately $1,200 to replace the brakes on both axles. The driver is now wondering what options are available beyond filing a complaint with the state, and is seeking advice on how to address what appears to be an inaccurate inspection result.
