Way back in the day I would build these shocks with some amount of pressure in them to help resist bottoming out. The mountain bike nerd in me was so sure that would be better. As I’ve tuned and tested and learned from people who’ve been doing this much longer than me. I’ve come to understand, on low grip, you really need the suspension to move in order to create grip so these days I build the shocks very neutral and rely on the damping and spring rates to get the job done.
