How did we get the flat plywood to make such a dramatic hull shape for the 36 foot canoe? Photo 1: We did shallow cuts lengthlong in the bow panels. These prevented splitting the plywood when we bent the hull to shape later. Photo 2:Joining the kit puzzle pieces process - first we fill the joint with epoxy. Photo 3: We take fiberglass strips and epoxy weld it directly over the slightly dished joint. Photo 4: Close-up of the fiberglassed joint. 5: All the panels have been joined into solid full length flat hull sides and bottom and are ready to be assembled. Next week we'll show photos of putting the hull together.

We at Devlin Boat were fortunate to have the Stillaguamish Tribe here in Washington State choose us to design and build their 36 foot canoe with them. Two of their Canoe builders, Nathan and Brian, joined with MacKenzie Devlin for the project. The challenge - to bend plywood to an extreme to create the dramatic canoe shape.
The photos show the result and the final picture shows the building team. All that was left now was a trip to the canoe's new home where brightly colored native designs would be added to the topsides.

Over the years the Black Crown design has remained a favorite among the many Devlin Boat designs. Here's a few photos of one that was in Olympia for a while 3 years back. She provides complete living quarters inside - galley - shower, head - dinette - forward berths. And there's inside and outside steering.
