🛠️ Two RV Fixes: Simple Diagnostics vs. Smart Component Swapping 🚐
Not every RV issue requires a massive budget or days in the shop. Yesterday, we tackled two common RV headaches—a dead generator and a crooked bedroom slide—proving that exact diagnostics and using the right parts make all the difference.

Here is a breakdown of what went down and how you can spot these issues on your own rig!

Case 1: The Cummins Onan 8000 Generator (Code 32)
The Symptom: The generator ran smoothly for a bit, but suddenly refused to restart. The indicator light flashed a Code 3 fault. After hitting stop to pull the secondary diagnostic blinks, it revealed a Code 32 (Low Cranking Speed / Fuel System issue).

The Diagnosis & Fix: Instead of throwing parts at it, we pulled out the multimeter. Checking the resistance (ohms) on the electric fuel pump revealed a dead short.

The Result: We swapped out the failed pump with a new one. Total diagnostic and swap time? Just under an hour. Now, the generator fires right up and runs beautifully.

💡 Tech Tip: Don't fear the fault codes! They are there to point us in the exact direction of the problem, often leading to a quick, highly affordable fix.

Case 2: The Crooked Schwintek Bedroom Slide Out
The Symptom: When extending the slide, one side would push out first, leaving the entire room cockeyed until the very end of the cycle. When retracting, the opposite side would start first.

The Diagnosis & Fix: Schwintek (Lippert) dual-motor systems rely on a controller to send synchronous velocity signals to both sides. Over time, these controllers can get "tired" and lose their ability to properly balance the power distribution.

The Pro-Tip Testing Method: If your RV has two identical slide setups (like this one with twin bedroom slides), you can easily test this by swapping the controllers between the working side and the problem side. If the issue moves to the other slide, you’ve pinned down a bad controller!

The Quality Warning: We strongly advise against using cheap, unbranded online knockoffs. They rarely communicate correctly with the motors. For this fix, we always recommend the factory-authorized Lippert components (replacing the older 13398-C2 with the updated OEM module) to ensure long-term reliability.
