NHRA Sanctions Street Legal Dragway 75 Years After Its Founding
PERRIS, CA — October 2026 — Seventy-five years after Wally Parks founded the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) in Southern California to help move street racing off public roads and onto the track, NHRA is partnering with Street Legal Dragway to carry that original vision forward.
Located at the Lake Perris Fairgrounds, Street Legal Dragway features a unique 330-foot (1/16-mile) racing format designed specifically for street-legal cars and trucks.
Unlike traditional drag strips, the facility combines three distinctive features: a shorter racing distance emphasizing reaction and traction, a NO PREP racing format that challenges driver skill, and its innovative Street Tree starting system featuring yellow for READY, red for SET, and instant green for GO. Track preparation may vary by event.
“Seventy-five years ago, Wally Parks recognized the need to get street racing off public roads and onto the drag strip. Today, we’re carrying that same vision forward. At Street Legal Dragway, every car is a race car,” said Andrew Marocco, founder of Street Legal Dragway.

“The NHRA is proud to partner and sanction Street Legal Dragway. Southern California has such a rich car history and is so vital to our sport it needs this great venue to thrive! This unique facility is an outlet for local car enthusiasts to get started in drag racing! Andy and his team have prepared a top-notch facility and keep the facility in great condition all year long! We look forward to seeing this track continue to grow as the sport does!”
