So a couple of weeks back I had a tow off of CR-B in Land O Lakes.
Whenever I get one on (or off) a busier road, I usally let the Vilas County Sheriff's Office know for two reasons. First, if they'd already received a call from someone about a vehicle on (or in) the roadway, I don't want two different tow trucks showing up out there for the same call. Secondly, it's nice to have a set of flashing red & blue lights behind me, to help deter traffic from plowing into either me or the vehicles.
When I called dispatch for this one, I learned it had already been reported, as the car was well in the eastbound lane and causing traffic to have to go left of center to get by. Fortunately, the deputies were only about 5-10 minutes away, and I was asked to wait for their arrival before loading it.
Per my request, the driver, an elderly man, had left the scene to go home after handing me the keys. He was willing to stick around, but the problem was, I couldn't keep him from wanting to stand on the driver's side of the car, with the door open, right in the middle of CR-B. I figured we definitely didn't need somebody hit out there, and that almost happened twice before I got him out of there and on his way.
When the deputies arrived, there was some question as to whether this was due to a mechanical failure that caused additional damage, or whether something had been hit, as the front right tire was pushed up against the rear side of the bumper.
One of the Deputies needed to look under the vehicle before I loaded it, so I stood by waiting. After grabbing the picture, me, never one to miss an opportunity, couldn't help but saying it... "I don't suppose you'd want to hook up the towing bridle for me while you're down there? No need for both of us to get dirty..." He didn't. ๐๐
